5.0 out of 5 stars Learn Country Jawing as quick as a dog can lick a dish!!!, December 18, 2001

This review is from: Aw, Shucks!: The Dictionary of Country Jawing (The New Artful Wordsmith Series) (Paperback)
I am as happy as a pig in a mud to recommend this cracker-jack book for both Americans and Non-Americans. I really took a shine to this book in the moment I bought it. Before listing my reasons beyond my admiration for this book, I think that some people might say, " What in God's name has a young Saudi boy to do with this book." To them I reply, "As sure as God made little green apples, Anne Bertram, the author, is not one of my kith and kin, but her language is my honeychile."

One reason for recommending this excellent book is, as I mentioned earlier, I love English dearly and when I write or speak to British, I do my best to use British-English words with them, and I use American-English words when dealing with Americans so that both sides get happy. This book was really as handy as pocket in a shirt when I spent my summer training at Halliburton Company, a very huge U.S. company, in Saudi Arabia where many individuals from the Lone Star state work there. So, it was a golden opportunity for me to practice the expressions I leaned form this wonderful book with these peoples. And to be honest to God, they were surprised and, in one of dog days, J.W, one of the completions department supervisors, was wondering whether my dad taught me these expressions, as he knows that my dad has been to Texas. I replied, " Nope, and I have never been to U.S." Therefore, I kiss the Bible that those who want to explore the beauty of English will find this book very useful and lovely.

Secondly, I am aware of the fact that several oil companies in Saudi Arabia, particularly Saudi Aramco, send their students and employees to Texas and Arizona for studying and getting some experience from the oil companies there. To them I say, " I `d bet my bottom dollar that you will love this book." I am sure that they will learn the expressions given in this book as quick as a dog can lick a dish because the author clearly explained the definitions for each expression and provided example sentences that show how theses expressions are used.

For Americans and I mean all Americans, not only the ones living in countries, the expressions provided in this dictionary are part of your language, and, hence, your heritage. So keep using them, not till the cows come home, but for good.

I am as hungry as a bear to read such dictionaries. Both (How to speak Southern ISBN # 0553275194) plus (You all Speak Here ISBN # 0820320293) are now in my wish list. Thanks.
