Let me first say that i wasn't too familiar with George Acosta but I picked this CD up after i saw the reviews it got... and i was not let down. It is probably the best trance cd i have now in my collection which includes Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, Digweed and Sasha. 3.0 out of 5 stars Better than many, not as good as some...
As far as compilations go, Acosta's Awake is energetic and lively, but simply presents the same big trance anthems we've heard about ONE MILLION TIMES. Acosta went very commercial with this release, which is a big mistake, educated ravers and progressive music fans beware - this one's for the weekend clubber who thinks ATB is a quality progressive producer.

Let me first say that i wasn't too familiar with George Acosta but I picked this CD up after i saw the reviews it got... and i was not let down. It is probably the best trance cd i have now in my collection which includes Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, Digweed and Sasha. There honestly really isn't a bad track on the cd and check out "r2d2" and "child of the universe" especially. Acosta mixes pretty well and as far as some of the songs being overplayed, i could care less because it still sounds good. A really good cd to just play in the car or when chillin' at home or before going out. The progressive nature and energy of the tracks just hit you in that way that makes you want to listen to it again and again. I told a few of my friends to check it out and they loved it. Overall, i definitely suggest picking this one up, believe me if you like Oakey, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD in my collection, April 21, 2000

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Awake (Audio CD)
Of all the CDs I've listened to or purchased, Awake is easily my favorite. I know that the reviews on this website tend to use a lot of superlatives (which probably makes sense, since people are likely to be motivated enough to write a review only if they really liked or disliked the CD), but Awake is pretty unique, to my mind. I've never known a CD to inspire my friends to go out and purchase a copy of it with such zeal. Virtually everyone to whom I've recommended Awake has told me that it has become one of their most, if not the most, listened to CD. Acosta's mixes are amazing to dance to, but also melodious enough that they're extremely soothing when you want to mellow out. This is the only CD that I've felt strongly enough about to take the time to write a review for, and I would highly recommend at least giving it a once-over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acosta's Masterpiece. Perfection., August 27, 2001

George has had 3 CD's released since this one (AM, PM, Trance Nation). This is his masterpiece. 'nuff said. I've made Acosta converts out of a few people here and there, any of his discs can do that, but Awake will probably remain as one of those classics that you will always remember and keep going back to. I have a pretty big collection, and I keep finding new discs that I claim as faves. But then I listen to Awake again and am I snapped back into reality. I've listened to this hundreds of times, and I am not tired of it. Track 11 is simply religious feeling. Angelfalls will blow your mind if you haven't heard it already. Gouryella and Don't Stop are timeless. Toca Me will just drive you....and I could keep going. Whether you are new to trance or not, this is an absolute must have for ANYBODY. I don't care if your favorite artist is Conway Twitty - you will connect with this. Buy or be left out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite CD for 5 Years Running, August 8, 2006

This review is from: Awake (Audio CD)
This has been my favorite CD ever since it came out - it never leaves my car, even when friends beg to borrow it. I can't say enough good things about it. It fits every mood perfectly - when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm angry, when it's raining, when it's sunny, when I'm running late, when I'm taking my time...it's the best driving CD in the world!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING ACOSTA, January 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Awake (Audio CD)
Before we go out and party, my friends and I slip this album in and get pumped up. It is an extoadinary collection of tracks with beats that build up to a dramatic climax. This cd can also be listened to on weeknights when you are just sitting around and want to let yourself free from the daily stresses of life. Regardless, it is a masterpiece topped off by, in my opinion, the best trance track in existence, DON'T STOP. If know a lot about trance or if you know squat, this album is an ESSENTIAL. Put it on in the car or in the house and you feel like you are in the club.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent high energy trace, August 11, 2000

How to start out about this CD? If you've never heard George Acosta spin, you're missing out, but this CD is an excellent primer into the world of George Acosta, and his unique style of mixing, as well as his incredible choices of music. He doesn't buy into the popular songs of the day and only mix those - he has an eclectic taste in music few others share. Awake starts out exactly how he spins - slow, melodic at first, then bringing you straight into driving trance. A definate must have for any serious trance fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true work of Art, June 15, 2000
This review is from: Awake (Audio CD)
this is probably one of, if not, the best trance-melodic trance albums I've ever heard. I know that when you read this you'll probably say "well, how can I base my opinion on his? just because he says it's great, doesn't really do me any good." Well, I'm telling you that it's worth the money, you won't be sorry you bought it. Goerge Acosta really comes through in this cd. I've listened to this cd for over a year now, and I still haven't gotten sick of it yet. It's the kind of cd that inspires you to go write your own music. well, that's all I have to say, go pick it up, see for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent trance compilation, January 31, 2000

George Acosta of Miami Beach's finest, the Shadow Lounge, delivers one of the best mixed trance/progressive house compilations in a while. Songs such as Ayla's "Angelfalls", Stray Dog's "Mirror", Green Court's "Follow Me, and Taucher's "Child of the Universe" are just a few of the 14 seamlessly blended tracks. Hard to find this quality of music at a domestic price. Will give you a little taste of what 3:00 a.m feels like at the Shadow Lounge.
