Anything but a sleeping pill, July 5, 2011
This review is from: Awake!: A Reader for the Sleepless (Paperback)
I really dug Beeber's book on Jews in punk rock (read it if you haven't because it's really smart and clever) so I was excited to see that he had edited this collection. It's a wickedly imaginative group of material about insomnia including writing by heavyweights like Joyce Carol Oates and Margaret Atwood, cartoons, art and some interesting erotic photography. The only real issue with the book is that it will NOT help you get to sleep -- quite the opposite, it will keep you up at night reading it.

Not just for Insomniacs, October 13, 2010
This review is from: Awake!: A Reader for the Sleepless (Paperback)
Steven Lee Beeber has come up with the perfect antidote for insomnia with this wonderful anthology Awake!: A Reader for the Sleepless. He wonderfully blends fiction, nonfiction, poetry and comics into an intoxicating blend sure to keep the insomniac occupied during those dark and lonely hours of the soul. Sometimes humorous, sometimes dreamlike, sometimes painfully true to life, Beeber provides a kaleidoscopic insight into the modern epidemic of insomnia through the wonderful work of Steve Almond, Aimee Bender and Jonathan Ames to name just a few.
