Beautiful worship music!,

This review is from: Awaken The Dawn (Audio CD)
This album is a fantastic follow-up to "In Christ Alone", which came out several years ago. I waited with much antipication for a follow-on album, and was definitely not disappointed (to say the least).
You will hear a fairly wide range of songs and styles on this CD. It starts off with a call to worship "Hear O Israel", and transitions into a couple of lively songs ("Come, People of the Risen King" and "Creation Sings the Father's Song") before the more contemplative "Still, My Soul, Be Still". "By Faith" is a stirring song about, well, walking by faith :-) Uilleann pipes at the beginning give a distinct Irish sound (I'm assuming that is what they are-don't know for sure as I have not seen specific info though). "Behold the Lamb" is a communion song, leading the listener in reflection and thanks and remembrance of the finished work of Christ. "All Around the World" lightens the tone, musically, after the more somber "Behold the Lamb", though without skimping on praise or worship - you'll want to sing along with "all praise to the King, of the New Jerusalem - where all of the saints, with one voice will worship the Lamb, we'll forever worship the Lamb". "Every Promise of your Word" has an intro that sounds like it could be off of a country album - and I don't mean that as an insult (or compliment necessarily), just an observation of the fairly wide range of musical styles that are present in this album. The dobro player in this song is fantastic (again, an assumption on the musical instruments-of course I could be mistaken). "Compassion Hymn" and "When Trials Come" are both great songs, with "When Trials Come" in particular delivering high-energy music delivers a great reminder of Him in whom we have hope. If this album were a service, then track 11 (Benediction "May the Peace of God") would be a fitting close. Thankfully, they didn't end it there, and have a reading of Psalm 57 (I love Kristyn's accent - you hear it only occasionally when she is singing, but it is very pronounced in this passage), and finally "What Grace is Mine", set to the tune which most people will recognize as "Danny Boy". So, if you can't tell, I really love this CD. It has music which is very catchy & moving & lots of things in between. Has very strong lyrics, with words & ideas drawn from scripture itself. The 1st time we listened to this album, we liked it a lot. However, listening to it multiple times since then (probably in the dozens, by now), has made us enjoy & appreciate it even more. There is just a lot of depth to this album. They have been blessed with immense talent, as singers, songwriters & musicians, and they have turned around and used those talents to direct praise, honor & worship to God in this album. In short, if you enjoyed their first album, or even if you have not heard their first album but love beautiful, God-honoring, Christ-praising, scripture-filled, doctrinally-sound worship music, get this!

I am a clasically trained musician who also enjoys Celtic music. If I am given a "Christian contemporary" (a/k/a/ pop) CD to listen to, I might identify 1-2 tracks out of twelve that I would consider using for worship. Maybe a few more in the case of a Robin Mark CD.
On this CD, there are NO mediocre songs - each track is of very good quality both musically and textually. I wouldn't call Kristyn Getty a world-class vocalist but her voice is pleasant without being syrupy and she sings worshipfully and with good style. In addition to the disc that rides around in my car, we've ordered additional copies to give to friends and family members.

We saw Keith and Kristyn Getty in concert last night at Moody Church in Chicago. It was an awesome and worshipful concert! I had heard some of their music, but didn't know they were the artists. I bought 2 of their CD's and this one is my favorite. Highly recommended!!
