5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It!
I thought it couldn't be written better. I couldn't put it down.
I personally don't like a story that's drawn out (not a Nora Roberts fan) I get bored with "they are having tea" in every chapter. I don't get a lot of time to read and like them short & to the point without being lost. Don't miss the first leopard book: wild rain.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not one of her best

I read everything Christine Feehan publishes, and this one fell below par for her. First, it is VERY short compared to every other novel she's written. Second, this one was lacking a central plot line. Her books always contain characters who are very passionate, especially with their love-making, but the book focuses on the protagonists getting down to business, so to speak, and not on any other goal. This book lacked any real plot and focused solely on the two finally "mating" (they're leopard people). There was no real climax to the book (no pun intended), which is very unusual for her. If you are interested in reading her, I highly recommend her, just not this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very, Very BAD, January 26, 2010

I usually love her books (and think I've bought every single one)- but this was very badly written. There was little to no plot, and the characters were very one dimensional. The story was over very quickly, yet it did not feel complete as a short story should. I was very, very disappointed and would not recommend this story to anyone.

I am sorry to say that the author seems to be losing her thought process. There was absolutely no plot or story line. I have read everything and I was totally disappointed with this book.

Really mixed here. One thing I really like about Feehan is her character development and her flow. In this book she has just the right amount of discription. There is little repitition as she can sometimes do. The book was fast paced but very short. I found it to be seductive but almost too much foreplay too fast. The ending was abrupt but left me wanting more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Endless Jungle - No Romance, July 13, 2010
This review is from: The Awakening: The Novella That Introduced the Leopard People (Kindle Edition)
The Awakening wasn't that bad, if you are botanical lover and enjoy the discription of every leaf and flower in this endless jungle.
To tell you the truth there is basically no romance, a lot of steamy sex, no real villian (gets killed before you know it) and a lot of flowers and trees. There is no real connection between the "fated" mates or with anyone else.
This book belongs into the category read it, enjoy the sex, and forget it like a bad relationship.
Christine Feehan has done it again...disappointing...what happend to her writting and creativity?
Is she stuck in jungle with a lover and forgot everything else?

3.0 out of 5 stars Just the introduction..., September 5, 2010

I think this is worth reading. I am not a big fan of the novella form- characters are usually one dimensional, stories seem rushed or overly simplistic and a little bit of background can read as dry as a law review when you are anxious to get back to the story. So I went into this expecting that. In the end, I found it didn't manage to avoid falling into those pitfalls, but I found I was pleased to have been introduced to the mythology of this world.

This one was a little bit better than many novellas- the imagery is beautiful. Anyone who has spent time in a jungle would appreciate it. Very magical setting.

The characters were not developed at all- I barely managed to put together a mental image of what they might look like, but the sex was hot and their attraction was palpable. Maggie and Brandt were likable enough, though you had to work hard to overlook his blatant deception that set off the whole thing. For the sake of the novella form, a reasonable back and forth between the two that would have allowed the relationship to develop had to be sacrificed. In places the passion short circuited rational thought, but Ms. Feehan managed to maintain the integrity of both characters.

The best part of this, as I mentioned, was the mythology. Ms. Feehan has created a wonderful concept here. The environmental message was laid on a little thick, but overall it was a good concept to quickly win the heart of the reader.

Anyone who is familiar with Ms. Feehan's work will recognize this isn't her best work, but it is a fast read that opens a door to a series that has great potential for passion.

I was just getting totally into the story and BOOM it's over. Okay I get it is just a short story but it really deserves more time. This is the first book for the "Leopard" series and I did enjoy it so I will read the rest of the series. I love the "Game" series the most.....I recommend both!!!
