The thrilling fifth book in the Sweep series.,
This review is from: Awakening (Sweep, No. 5) (Paperback)
Morgan loved Cal with all her heart, and truly believed he was her soul mate. But then came the realization that Cal and his mother were practicing dark magick. And when Morgan confronted Cal, he tried to murder her. Now she is picking up the pieces of her shattered life as she tries to make sense of Cal's horrible betrayal and the fact that from the moment he met her, he was using her. Not only that, but she is experiencing romantic feelings for Cal's half brother Hunter, feelings she can't ignore. Together, Morgan and Hunter discover that someone in Widow's Vale has called on the dark forces. Has Cal returned to torment her further? After the cliffhanger ending of the last book, all Sweep fans will want to read this book. It's just as good as the other four books.

Morgan doesn't know who to trust.... including herself.,
This review is from: Awakening (Sweep, No. 5) (Paperback)
Cal has betrayed Morgan. Has tried to kill her and has used dark magick against her. She doesn't know who to trust. She's now friends with Bree again, and Hunter is now leading Cirrus, like his cousin leads Kithic. There's something going on between her and Hunter, but even though she denies it it gets stronger everyday. Practikal Magick is being forced to close do to a debt and David's Aunt Rosaline dieing. But, mysteriously, the man closing the store 'comes into money' and forgives the debt. Morgan and Hunter know that dark magick is being worked, and they are trying to find out who before something disastrous happens.Ugh, I did NOT like the cliffhanger in the end. *sigh* Now I gotta get a hold of the sixth one. These are awesome books, and I love the whole story. And that was sad when those guys were destroying Morgan's aunts and her girlfriends house because they are gay.

Good, but Not the Best,
By
This review is from: Awakening (Sweep, No. 5) (Paperback)
Morgan has just escaped-barely- from Cal, Selene, and their dark magick. Cal and Selene are gone, but no one knows where, or when they might come back, and what they may do when they return. Without Cal, Morgan is alone (for awhile). The Awakening describes Morgan's grief over Cal, her inability to deal with her feelings for Hunter, and the shaky rebuilding of her friendship with Bree. The reader will learn much more about Hunter's and Cal's father, and that he is still alive. Also, the subplot of the story revolves around how the store Practical Magick is closing due to money problems. Morgan, already having lost Cal, can't bear to lose her haven too. Soon, Morgan and Hunter discover that dark magick is being practiced? Has Cal and Selene returned? Who is the target of this magick? And is it possible that one of Morgan's dearest friends, as Hunter suspects, is responsible? By the end of the book, one witch will be stipped of her or his powers. Although this book is good, it is a dissappointment compared to the others, mainly because it seems to have drifted away from the main plot. However, Morgan's new romance is very cool. I recommend you read it if you have read the others. And if you have not read the first 4 in the sweep series, it is best to start out at #1. Don't worry- you'll "sweep" through them. You'll eat them up like potato chips. lol. This is a really good series, which I recommend to all.

Recommended to Parents who cant get their daughters to read,
By El Brujo "Brujo Hechisero" (Lowell, Ma) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Awakening (Sweep, No. 5) (Paperback)
I purchased the Sweep series for my 13 year old daughter in the hopes that maybe she would read. "She hated to read." Well I was amazed, and could not get her to go to sleep, as she would spend the whole night, with a night-light on reading these books. She enjoyed them so much, and could not stop talking first about Cal and then Hunter, that I had to see what all the fuss was about.Well after two weeks, a book a day, for a girl who hated to read, it sparked my curiosity, so I started reading, and was surprised to find out how enjoyable a Teen book about Teen Witches could be. I am not really into Wicca, but these books are really enjoyable. I am on my fifth book, and my daughter read each twice, and is know on the Circle of Three Series. I have to highly recommend these books to those parents who can not get their daughters to read. These are excellent stories, full of fantasy, horror, and fun.

Lingering Effects,
By HybridRainStorm "HybridRainStorm" (Miami, Fl USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Awakening (Sweep, No. 5) (Paperback)
This series has a way of lingering after I put down each book, making me feel as though I'm living in it's world rather than my own, and that's a pleasant effect. I love this series. As you read each book, you grow more with the character. I can relate with the estrangement Morgan encounters when losing someone close to you, and the feelings are well interpreted in these books. Cate Tiernan is truly gifted. If your a fan of Lisa Jane Smith books you'll love this series!

Every new beginning comes on some other beginning's end...,

If Morgan didn't think she was traumatized enough as it was, she's even more upset with having to deal with the reality of the previous book's events. The boy she loved tried to kill her in order to save her from his mother's evil intentions. Her biological mother had an affair with someone that was decidedly not her mate Angus. Add onto this some blossoming feelings for the mysterious Hunter & it's no wonder that Morgan is feeling very overwhelmed.
This book serves as a great bridge between the previous story arc & the next one. Not only does it give us more character building, but it also serves the purpose of showing us (and Morgan) what the risks are if she were to use dark magic in order to serve her own purposes. (Which makes me wonder what would have happened if Morgan had used that dark spell to avenge her aunt & lover...) Some parents may be worried that the series is growing too dark for their teen, so I want to give them the assurance that this series is very well done. It doesn't use death or darkness as an easy way to spice the series up. Every bad action has it's consequence & all of the adult material in the book is handled very maturely. In fact, I recommend that the parents read the books along with their teens! It's so good that you'll find yourself fighting with your kid over who gets to read the next book first!

I enjoyed this 5th installment of the Sweep series. In this book Morgan is trying to recover from Cal's betrayal by trying to burn her to death in his garage. This is a hard time for Morgan. The love of her life has left her, Hunter is trying to teach her and her friends just aren't filling the holes. David attempts dark magick to save his store and the homes of the renters who live above. Hunter has feelings for Morgan, that's clear in this book. Morgan too is finding herself attracted to Hunter but doesn't want to admit it. I liked how Morgan defended her aunt in this book to 3 hoodlums in their new neighborhood. If you are looking for a good quick read concerning teenagers and wicca this is the book/series for you.
