Book Description

In the exciting sequel to The Stream: Discovery, Charlie Patterson and his best friend, Robin LeBeaux, have spent most of a year using others' dreams as their personal playground. Such is life in The Stream. Now, however, as the dark Lord Siri attempts to gain control of the dream world, Charlie and Robin have decided it is time for an all-out war for control of the Stream. But first, however, they must gather an army from dwellers of the dream world.

In Book 2 of The Stream trilogy, Charlie and his friends return to escort us back to their fantastical world. It’s impossible to not be irresistibly lured in by Bill Jones’ inventive characters and page-turning pace, as skillfully crafted in The Awakening as it was in The Stream: Discovery. Once again, Charlie is the ideal humble hero, each character’s individuality comes through in clever, zany dialogue, and our imaginations are enchanted through clear and vivid scene descriptions. Fans anxiously awaiting this sequel won’t be disappointed.

About the Author

Bill Jones, Jr. was born in Washington, D.C., moving to Hampton, Virginia at age 4. From an early age, he assumed would be a photographer when he grew up. By age 12, Bill could be found bicycling around the streets of downtown Hampton, Virginia, camera in hand. Already an avid Science Fiction and Fantasy buff, at age ten, he was exposed to the poetry of Nikki Giovanni and the fiction of Jack London and Madeleine L'Engle. The writing bug was born. In 2007, Bill wrote a short story that would later become the first two chapters of his Fantasy Fiction / Adventure series, The Stream. He completed Book 1, Discovery, in December 2009, and then immediately began work on its sequel, Awakening. Now, with the publication of the first two books in The Stream trilogy, Bill is anxiously awaiting the publication of final book, Emprise, in early 2013. Bill is also planning a release of his first Science Fiction adventure, Hard as Roxx, late in 2012

5.0 out of 5 stars Bill Jones Jr delights again! May 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Awakening, the second in The Stream series, is as much of a joy to read as his first book Discovery. Instantly I was sucked into Charlie and Robin's world. By playing in the world of dreams Bill is able to let his imagination and creativity sore without boundaries.
I love watching Charlie and Robin not only figure out The Stream- the dream world- but also real life. Together they grow, learn, face their fears, and protect those who cannot protect themselves. They complement each other and when they can't fix a problem, they team up with Janet, Mary, and G'Pa Joe.
Bill made me laugh, cry, sit on the edge of my seat, and shocked me several times. I love his characters, and the richness of their lives. They become real as I read about them.
While Charlie and Robin are young, and a teen would enjoy reading this book, the plot and characters are rich enough to delight an adult.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awakening (The Stream) by Bill Jones May 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the second book in the series The Stream. I didn't read the first book so this was a new story to me.

Charlie and his friends live part of their lives in a dream world. One they have created by being able to enter each other's dreams. Their world is full of imagination and creativity. But all is not well in the world of dreams as they find it is more real than they could have ever thought. As Charlie and his friends are soon to find out the dream world can overlap into their present time and bring danger with it. Vampire bunnies, dragons and trees that can move are only a few of the dangers that await in The Stream.

As time and their dreaming moves forward the children find they must do more than just watch and interact when they wish. It is time for them to fight the evil that has invaded the stream and make it safe for all that live and dream there. While Charlie had never imagined himself a hero, with Robin at his side (No she is not his girlfriend as he tells everyone) together they will fight the evil Siri and make their world safe once more.

Very well written, with good narration, dialogue and flow, The Stream, is a wonderful book for children from about fifth grade upwards through middle school and beyond. The hero's are well developed and are presented as rather ordinary children, well maybe a tad smarter than most, who deal with extraordinary circumstances. They use good judgement and have an adult to go to when they need advise.

With enough scare factor to bring chills and thrills but not enough to cause nightmares in all but the most sensitive, this is a book that we really like. While the main protagonist is a boy there are plenty of girls in the story as well who play leading roles. Something we like a good deal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read September 14, 2012

I liked the imagination this author showed and the characterisation of teenage Charlie. That said, I thought maybe it would be even better with the plot tightened up, but that's just me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful July 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am reposting my review from The Stream, Discovery because I read it and Awakening back to back in a matter of a few days and it truly felt like just one book.

Author, Bill Jones Jr, has a wonderful ability to pull you into an adventure with people of all ages. My 86 year old mother read this and was waiting for more too.
----------------------------------

I am not an avid reader for a couple of reasons.
1. If there is not a lot going on I tend to get bored.
2. I also write and am a bit fearful of others' ideas turning up in my characters.

I follow the authors blog and found him to be unashamedly honest. I was skeptical at first... Maybe he was having an off day and his honesty in that days post came from a place he taps into once in awhile. Well, after a few days I learned that Bill Jones, Jr. to be one of the nicest yet unapologetic men, speaking whats on his mind. I so appreciate this quality in a person.

At one point either in a post on the blog or in an email response to me, I am not really sure, he said people don't finish his books because they (the books) are too busy (I am ad-libbing because I am horrid at quoting). Anyway, this piqued my interest right away so off I toddled to Amazon to purchase. I not only purchased Discover but Awakening, too.

Like I said before I am not an avid reader so I procrastinated reading of my purchases. After getting to know the author a bit more I felt safe, that though we both write, to read his books. There is no way Bill's style is mine and I am certain I will not steal his characters.

Once I began reading I felt foolish for waiting. I love that Bill wrote these with a mature theme yet incorporated adolescents in the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Tale May 29, 2012
Format:Paperback
I also have not read the first book, but this one was so well-written that it didn't matter. Everything was explained so well that I didn't feel like I missed anything.

Charlie, Robin, Janet, and Willie, along with the senior citizens deal with a wide variety of issues during their visits to the Stream, or the dreamworld. People and creatures who are nothing like what they seem to be. Deception from someone trusted. Dreams that get all too real.

This book had a little bit of everything. Tragedy, triumph, love, deception, self-discovery. This was an amazing read. It may be a book for the YA set, but this adult was extremely satisfied with the journey.

More About the Author

Bill Jones, Jr. is a novelist, poet, and photographer, who was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Tidewater, Virginia. He latched onto photography at age 12 and grew up assuming he would be a professional photographer. By college, his priorities had shifted (as well as his awareness of economics) and he opted instead for a career in the business world.

An avid reader and lifelong Science Fiction and Fantasy buff, Bill was equally drawn to poetry and began writing and having poems published in small literary journals shortly after college. After taking time off to focus on raising his daughter, Bill resumed writing in 2007. Since then, he has published 3 contemporary fantasy novels (Discovery, Awakening, and Emprise) as well as a short story collection, The Juice and Other Stories. Currently, Bill is editing his first Science Fiction adventure, Hard as Roxx.
