Scientifically engaging, pragmatically mystical,

This review is from: Awakening to Zero Point : The Collective Initiation (Paperback)
The implications of this book still affect me today. Gregg Braden intellectually synthesizes current geological events with past-cultural predictions, quantum physics with non-hyped "new consciousness", while never pretending to predict. He weaves a non-denominational tapistry of possible outcomes for our collective consciousness, while never preaching. Bravo. We need more books like this from scientists that think way outside of the box, and have the compassion to want to share their ideas with us. Reading "Awakening To Zero Point" is refreshing, cerebrally stimulating, and comforting that even just one human amongst us billions thinks this way.

Awakening to Zero point is a great book by Gregg Braden , a geologist, sacred journey guide and spiritual man. I have met Mr Braden in person and think he is a fabulous man, that really cares about the earth and with a profound intuitive insight regarding the changes that we are undergoing. The book is a collection of theories and ideas that attempt to bring together what many of us are feeling intuitively ( "things on earth are changing" and "the past of humanity is not as we thought" ) with some solid evidence and scientific fact. I think Gregg does a very good job at this and provides plenty of food for thought. The science in the text can be definitely improved upon though, as has been pointed out by a few reviewers with a scientific background. As a former physicist i too found that some of the science in the book is approximative. Maybe gregg's science, although better than that of most new agers, is not as good as some of the people for which science is their daily occupation. I too had some slight uncomfortablness at some of the statements within the book, from a scientific prospective. However I would not for this reason throw out the baby with the bath water. Gregg's science might not be fool proof, but his his intuition surely is. I ultimately found this book very valuable. At least it is a movement in the right direction. Science and Spirit will soon be meeting, if humanity is to progress at all. Gregg has definitely put a very positive foot forward in this endevour as well as sharing of his experience and very positive essence in this text. A very worthwhile read.

Who are we?,

This review is from: Awakening to Zero Point : The Collective Initiation (Paperback)
Braden's books not only speak to my intellect and knowledgeable mind, but also to the essence of truth which lives within us all. Anyone interested in a search for the truth will appreciate this book. If we have at times felt "separated" from other people, not "connected", we will begin to understand how all of us share a "onenes" in our mind, body, and spirit. The key is to realize that although we are all the same, some people are willing to make an effort to reach out and grasp new meanings which may be completely foreign to other people. Yet, we take that step anyway. Then, when we least expect it, we begin to find insights and understandings which touch our hearts. I enjoy all the Braden books, this one is no exception.

Braden speaks the Truth about Power,

In the face of the lies and deceit that surround our world today, clearly we are going through a time of tremendous change. This change demands the accountability of Truth in our lives. Greg Braden shares a philosophy about the current paradigm shift we are moving through. He explains how we can embrace and move through the changes in creative and empowering ways. His words make sense, and combine science and spirit in a way that is surprisingly refreshing. I love the way he thinks and he provides hope and inspiration during a time often filled with confusion and despair. I've seen (and own) his video series "Walking Between the Worlds" and it was this presentation that made me want to know more about Greg and the way he thinks. I need his words in my life, and I know I will be reading more of them. "Those that claim to choose peace, prosperity, health and vitality for their world must first become those attributes themselves." Truer words were never spoken, they are the true spirit of healing the planet we all share.

...then this is a necessary reading. I've always had a very rational approach to the question of who we are and what is our place in the universe. These are questions that physical science has been unable to answer, let alone philosophy or religion.Well, this book took me a step forward. It has changed my vision of the world, it has shown me how energy and matter relate to each other, and it has hinted at me that there is so much more to discover. All this in a book that is easy to read. And if like so many of us, you've been having this unexplained intuition that some change is at hand for humanity and the world in general, well, just read this book and draw your own conclusions. Gregg Braden, thank you for a wonderful book.

Zero Point to this book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Awakening to Zero Point : The Collective Initiation (Paperback)
This book is full of much speculation and doubtful "facts" that are supposed, somehow, to be linked. I find it less convincing than most other reviewers. The book starts with a series of "Wow!" events that are implied (without evidence), to be connected. Included are: the end of the cold war, increased numbers of earthquakes, climate change, new viruses, increases in the number of alien sightings and crop circles, and unspecified "studies" and "evidence" that someone other than the Egyptians built the pyramids. And get this: "Probable evidence from within our own space program, indicating that technologically advanced societies have existed on at least one other planet within our own solar system..." Actually, the evidence from the space program is that there were no other technologically advanced societies in our solar system. Talk to NASA. It is easy to see how this book would impress people with no background in science. For example, on page 11, under the heading "The nature of stillness: Zero Point", there are two paragraphs describing the basics of absolute zero: zero degrees Kelvin / minus 273.15 degrees Celsius. This is all good if pedestrian science, although it might appear extraordinary to someone unfamiliar with it. Anyway, Braden draws incorrect conclusions from it. He states: "The point at which temperatures reach absolute zero... is referred to as Zero Point." Actually, zero Kelvin is called absolute zero not zero point. (Or even Zero Point.) Of course Braden has to call it Zero Point because that is the title of his book. A non-existent connection is then made, as Braden morphs seamlessly with no logic or justification to: "Earth is experiencing early stages of the events that will provide the experience of Zero Point..." and three more paragraphs of similar unsubstantiated twaddle, these being the theories his book has been written to espouse. The scientific explanation of absolute zero may blind the unscientific reader, who may not notice that "Zero Point" has absolutely no connection to absolute zero. (Absolutely zero connection, in fact.) Even if Braden's theories are 100% correct, there is still no connection between them and absolute zero. It seems intellectually dishonest. Even more astonishing is the next section, where Braden talks about the Earth's declining magnetic field, and its flips from north to south. Apparently, the Earth's magnetic flip occurs when the Earth spins in the opposite direction to the current one. See page 47: "The sun will rise and set from opposite directions relative to its present cycle" The proof is in The Bible, specifically Joshua 10:13: "The sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day." So the Earth stopped spinning for a day, and then (presumably), started spinning in the opposite direction, and the proof is in The Bible. Complete nonsense, of course. And Braden is even wrong when he says that the magnetic field is declining. The National Geophysical Data Center states that the Earth's magnetic field is: "actually higher than it has been for most of the last 50,000 years" But that's just scientists quoting facts. You might as well give up reading the book at this point, but two additional specific bits are worth mentioning. First is an explanation of Fibonacci numbers (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21...), which are: "a very special series of numbers - literally codes for fundamental aspects of life on Earth." Literally codes? Literally? LOL. Without any attempt to justify this ridiculous statement he moves straight to his conclusions. But the statement is incorrect, and so the conclusions he draws are also incorrect. Secondly, get this on page 62: "Only 10% of the human brain is utilized, and only 10% of the mass of the universe can be accounted for. Is it by chance that these percentages correlate so closely? Possibly not." LOL again. Possibly not? No, just possibly. Firstly, Braden does not justify that these two are connected. He just says "possibly not", and the reader may not notice that there is no connection. Secondly, the "only 10% of the human brain is utilized" is a total myth, and the "10% mass of the universe" figure is incorrect. Not that this matters to Braden. (Well, possibly not.) The rest of the book includes a Cook's Tour of the usual crank subjects, including the pyramids of Egypt (built by aliens), crop circles (a secret message) and the Shroud of Turin (genuine, although it was known to be a fake in the 14th century when it first appeared). And Jesus ("the Universal Reference Being") makes several appearances. Hey, these are incredible phenomena, don't you think? Jeez, they're all connected! (Not.) The only thing I like about this book is its title, Zero Point - which is exactly how many I give it out of five.

Best of Braden's work,
This review is from: Awakening to Zero Point : The Collective Initiation (Paperback)
This is the first book I read by Gregg Braden, many years ago. It remains my favorite. Gregg is absolutely the best at combining scientific information with spiritual traditions to create an overview of the new world age we are moving into. Much has been written about the year 2012 and the associated "shift of the ages." This book presents scientific backup for ancient spiritual prophecies about the earth changes we are living through. It is both compelling and inspiring. Highly recommended.

And I have to say, if you are too lazy too do so, then you are missing
out. I have had this book since it came out. I lend it out regularly. I have even met Mr. Braden, and he signed my book. Now aside from facts, there is intuition. Intuition has saved my life. Not paying attention to my intuition resulted in the tragic death of my son. And intuition has led me to research information, find facts, the two are intertwined for me anymore. Logic and intuition, really not at all contradictory. Both facts and intuition are important. Mr. Braden doesn't just make stuff up. Studies are there, they are published. Look them up. Way back when, I intuitively knew there were things going on with our planet. Just didn't know what, why, how. Just knew. Just knew that things were coming up, some big changes were going to happen. Now I know that there have been studies, there are facts, and I know truth by my intuition. I trust it. I am no impressionable kid, I have seen hearts linked together people looking at a photo that caused such an emotional response it caused changes in a reading on a computer several hundred miles away. Humans are changing, we are learning how powerful we are. And we have books like this that pointed hundreds of us on our way. World wide, this kind of mind opening book and others have opened up the minds and hearts of the human population to possibilities. Possibilities for our future, what is so damn wrong with that? Those who are skeptical, well sorry for you. But that is your right to question, just don't be lazy about it.

be objective when you delve into this book. i didn't purchase this book over amazon but it's been part of my library for the past decade. the best way to approach ANY subject of this type is through a curtain of objectivity. Braden is a very eloquent author. His explanations he offers in this book may seem nebulous as times, but i have a feeling that he wants you to figure it out for yourself. with all the 2012 "stuff" flying around people who are concerned with whats coming around are looking for definite answers. you will not find them in this book. what you will find, is an opinion to what may be in store for us and encouragement to draw your own conclusion. i have high regard for this author. i had heard that it was forcibly removed from production for some obscure reason and that there are now a finite number of them at large (this is hearsay). as a collector of out of print books of this type (i.e, spiritual, metaphysical)i give this book a high recommendation. i do not, off the bat, believe everything i read or watch or hear. i listen to my gut instinct to determine what is right for me. you should as well. one thing Braden is absolutely right about, is that unfounded fear will destroy us...especially fear born of ignorance. i also find it absurd to label a book "potentially dangerous". if such is the case, then your television, even your computer is just as potentially dangerous IF NOT MORE...yet nothing stopped you from buying one. i give this 4 stars for collectors. as for the subject matter, i find it fascinating even though i harbor just a tablespoon of healthy skepticism.

A Brilliant Synthesis Still Relevant in 2011,

Just finished re-reading this classic work. Braden elegantly explicates such seemingly disparate concepts as matter, energy, light, consciousness, crop circles and Christ consciousness to explain the "tension of tumultuous change" and anxiety perceived by many around the world. This sounds far-fetched, but Braden lays it out step by step until it all comes together in a meaningful way. His explanations of scientific concepts such as electrical and magnetic fields, platonic solids, genetics, etc. were accessible to this non-scientist. The acceptance of the Shroud of Turin may be problematic for some, but the Shroud is still controversial today. Braden's reference to wide-ranging sources like the Book of Mormon, Essene Gospels, Emerald Tablets of Toth, etc., in addition to the Bible, give the impression he has studied them. I would have liked to see these sources explained in more detail. Especially in the chapter on crop circles/glyphs everything comes together-the science, the ancient history, modern times. In fact, the crop circle section is one of the the best explanations I've come across for this phenomenon. Awakening to Zero Point remains amazingly relevant since its 1993 publication. It cites the breakdown of our security systems, the bailout of banks, "massive cutbacks and layoffs resulting in record numbers unemployed and bankruptcies." As Braden tells it, the ancients left us information, science has corroborated much of this and it's up to us to accept that we are not separate from ourselves, others, the planet, the cosmos, the creator. This is not a gloom and doom book. In fact, it is surprisingly hopeful. |
