Not what I wanted, I was looking for some recycling/re-purposing projects and found this to be an evironmentlist book that is a bit on the preachy side.

Fun, fresh and meaningful,

I was pleasantly surprised by the number of modern designs and patterns that I would actually like to make. That, combined with the suggestions for alternative and eco-friendly yarns, will spark inspiration in knitters everywhere. This would make a great gift for any knitter or wannabe.

generic patterns,

I don't quite see what is special in this book. The patterns seem pretty generic. The "buy-locally bag" made with filet like a fishermen's net looks suspiciously like the free crochet "string bag" that you get on the back the label when you buy Lily Sugar' n Cream yarns. It looks like the same basic bag with just the handles changed to the side of the bag. If I didn't know any better I would say someone just made just enough minor alterations to claim it is an original design.
And crochet/knit using newspaper strips picture frame? That has to be one of the most stupid ideas ever. Nothing like devoting a lot of time creating something that would be destroyed at the slightest hint of moisture. Yarn made of newspaper is a novelty at best. I totally agree with Kelly from Seattle who wrote this in a review on BetterWorldBooks: "I like the cover pattern but that's about it. Seems like it's trying to cash in on the environmental movement without really providing anything of substance." She said exactly what I was thinking about this book.

I purchased this book mainly because I know one of the authors. I was very pleasantly surprised at variety of patterns and have plans to make a few.
