Book Description

July 15, 2006
Are you a helper or an achiever? A challenger or a peacemaker? Awareness to Action explores the nine distinct, yet interconnected personality types of Enneagram theory, which uses a nine-pointed figure to illustrate the relationship between an individual’s dominant personality and the other types that comprise the structure. Mario Sikora and Robert Tallon explain the characteristics of each personality and show how a person can capitalize on their strengths and weaknesses, charting a specific course for personal growth. They discuss practical topics such as relationship building, conflict resolution, and personal development, information that will not only be of interest to individuals seeking a greater understanding of self, but to managers and human resource professionals as well.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book represents years of application of the Enneagram in actual work settings. It is real, not theoretical. Its strenth lies in teh authors'' understanding of how people behave in the office, rather than in a classroom or in workshops. Tallon and Sikora show how individuals are capable of growth in effectiveness at work, in life, and within their own personality."--Ed Zakrzewski, director, Leadership, Learning and Performance, Broadband Communications Sector, MOTOROLA

"Tallon and Sikora hit the mark with this book. Performance improvement in sales management, or any area involves more than knowing yourself; it involves acknowledging your strenghts and weaknesses, taking responsibility for your behavior, and taking results-oriented action. This book shows exactly how to do that. A must read for every manager and every employee."--Don Johnson, Regional Vice President, achieveglobal

"By combining emotional intelligence with the nine personality types of the Enneagram the authors have created an accurate and useful map to high performance and success. I can''t think of anyone who would not benefit from this book."--Mary Kate Harkins, Manager, Human Resources, GlaxoSmithKline

5.0 out of 5 stars A pragmatic, business-friendly model for using the Enneagram, June 28, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Awareness to Action: The Enneagram, Emotional Intelligence, and Change (Paperback)
I've been a student of the Enneagram since 2000, seeking how to best use this powerful mental model in the business environment. This book has the best presentation I've found for that purpose. It is very pragmatic and "business friendly". I like what one of its authors, Mario Sikora, wrote in a recent article:

"While the needs of my business audience have shaped the model of the Enneagram I present, I consider it a model for pragmatists--people who are seeking growth but uninterested in the mystical, psychospiritual elements so often associated with the Enneagram...... "Business audiences are not soft audiences, however. In fact, they tend to be challenging and skeptical .... They sniff out inaccuracy, inconsistency, and fuzziness and will either tune you out ... or they will turn on you like sharks that sniff blood. If you can spend a day teaching the Enneagram to a group of 30 engineers or lawyers and survive, your model is solid."

The Enneagram model this book presents is very "solid" and I recommend it highly.
