Imperfect at best,
By SandmanVI (Glen Allen, VA United States) - See all my reviews

The Bolshoi, one of the 80's great undiscovered acts, deserved a better 'Best of' than this. This is an awkward collection of songs that doesn't feature many of their best moments and edits others in unfortunate and unnecessary ways. Why replace album versions with shorter radio edits? Bad move. I don't mind including "Away II" as an extra, but they should have at least included the better original version. For fans, it is nice to get the b-sides "Foxes" and "West of London Town" on CD. It's also nice to hear a couple of Trevor Tanner songs. Howveer I still would have rather seen more great Bolshoi songs in their full glory. The Bolshoi may be one of the best alternative bands that you never heard, but this isn't the best way to hear them. Go out and buy 'Friends' (hopefully the CD that includes the 'Giants' EP) instead. If you like that, then check out 'Lindy's Party' which was more subtle and acoustic than its biting predecessor. Note to fans: Ever notice the obscure red circle that surrounded the letter "r" on the 'Friends' album? Combine that with the smiling, but very sinister face watching over you from the clouds. I came to the conclusion that this album had a double meaning in that you could interpret the title to be 'Fiends' sans the 'r'. It's as if the red circle is meant to be a strikethrough. Listen to the bitterness and think about it.

The mighty Trevor and friends return in splendour !,
By Pandora Braithwaite (Florida USA) - See all my reviews

I've been waiting for this cd for years , and I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed . All the old faves are here and a few obscure and brilliant b sides . But the most exciting thing is the 2 new tracks from Trevors solo album . " Master of the world " and " Mary " are sheer genius . As good as The Bolshoi material , they show Trevor has lost none of his infamous edge . At last the original " Dark Lord " returns to show his imitators how it's done . The Best of The Bolshoi is a real triumph , and I can't wait for the new cds .

2 b sides and 2 new songs were enough for me to buy it,

This is a good collection, though already owning all of their CD's and singles, I only bought it for the two new songs and to have the Foxes and West of London Town B-sides on CD. Master of the World and Maryare incredible, and I'm looking forward to the rumored Trevor Tanner solo album from which they came. Also rumors of a New Bolshoi album called Overdriver 2000, but who knows? Anyway if rumors are true, and you buy this CD, you are buying it only to have the two B-sides, for everything else on here is re released by Beggars Banquet (and available here at Amazon), or will be released soon when (if) the Master of the World CD comes out.
