Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Those wacky monsters from Awesome Animated Monster Maker Math need your help! The Blobblers have stolen the monsters' monsterpieces from Creepy Castle, and it's up to you to find their hideout and liberate the stolen picture. Along the way, you will help rebuild the Crumblers, who keep having their body parts scattered by the mischievous Blobblers. The adventure starts in Creepy Castle, where the monsters discover their monsterpiece has been taken, and decide to build a hero with monster parts to catch the Blobblers.

There are five different activities that can be played many times during the course of the game. You must catch the matching number/shape in Number Drop, choose the correct coordinates in the navigation activity, and assign the correct parts according to certain rules in the logic game. In the recipe section, you will weigh, measure, and set the timer/temperature gauges. The hero-building activity's directions must be followed to build a hero. There are six grade levels that you can customize to fit each child, and the program will give the player the option to adjust to a higher level if they answer all the questions correctly in an activity.

This game was not well thought out. It gives instructions on making a monster using certain numbers of parts. Great concept - kids have to do mental math. However, if the child makes a mistake along the way, they have no way to go back and check where they went wrong. The head of the lab just keeps saying they were wrong and to "keep trying." Well, once a kid has lost count inside his or her head, there is no way to keep trying to make a certain number unless you can see what you have already done. Once the monster parts are selected and put inside the "monster maker" they become invisible. There is no way to count and see where you went wrong. The only thing you can do when you make a mistake is exit the entire game! Otherwise it just tells you to "keep trying." One mistake and the kid is done with this game. Don't waste your money. Shame on you Houghton Mifflin for not testing your software for glitches like this!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: AweSome Animated Monster Maker Math (CD-ROM)
This is the best math game I've ever played. It's mostly for little kids but even 6th graders can play it and it's still challenging (You get to choose a level.) This game a good one because it combines math learning with a good storyline and appropriate humor. Math is much more effective when kids have fun while they
learn it. (The only thing wrong with it is that it's genetically impossible for someone to have two heads of different genders, like the Blobler King and Queen. But who cares?!)
