4.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to things Egyptian!
I bought this book for my son who is an avid reader of anything Egyptian and he devoured it happily. He found the interesting facts hard to resist and shared them with all of us. As a professional historian, I usually eschew things like this but I found it engaging when I read it. This is the type of book that homeshcooling parents love because it encourages a reluctant...

3.0 out of 5 stars It Needed More Thought
I read Deary's Books and I think it was one of the worst of his books. He pretty much didn't put as much thought into this one as the others. Mr. Deary, work up to your standards, please. I'm getting another book of yours and I hope it's better.

As a professional historian, I usually eschew things like this but I found it engaging when I read it. This is the type of book that homeshcooling parents love because it encourages a reluctant reader to learn and it cements the learning of one who is motivated. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Egyptians - Awesome Book!, September 25, 2005
A Kid's Review
The Awesome Egyptians tells you about the people who lived an awesome two thousand years before the Greeks and Romans! It tells you fearful facts about the mighty Mummys' experiences. Did you know that King Pepy II ruled from age 9 to age over 100 - longer than any other Egyptian king? Did you know that King Sneferu invited twenty of his wives to row along the palace lake and entertain him? It was going well when one wife dropped her hair clip in the water. She sulked and refused to go on. The King pleaded. She refused. Finally King Sneferu had to order the court magician to find it. An ancient story says that he folded one half of the lake on top of the other, and found the hair clip.

Awesome story, huh? Anyway, I give this book an awesome FIVE star rating - that's as high as I can get! I recommend you buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaingly Educating, December 7, 2003
I was introduced to these books in my late teens. While they are intended for a younger crowd, those who might not be so keen on idea of schooling and learning about "boring `ole history" ... this defiantly lightens up anyones attitude on the subject. It's humorous, factual, and provides critical thinking/understanding to a culture form long ago. The cartoon companions are highly entertaining! As well as the, this-is-how-it-was-there-is-no-point-lying-to-you attitude of the writing. Of course, once you've become addicted to one, the others will somehow find they way onto your bookshelf...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Children, August 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Awesome Egyptians (Horrible History) (Library Binding)
This book, as well as all other books in the Horrible Histories series, are excellent books for children that are interested in learning about Ancient cultures. The book features several comics, pictures, and activities that refer the the life of Egyptians. For example, it contains recipes for Egyptian bread as well as games that Egyptian children played. The book makes learning fun and easy, and I highly recommend it for any child's reference shelf or for history teachers.

I think this book was really good. I thought the book was funny but it also taught me things that I didn't know about the Egyptians. I've also read some other books in that series and I think the same about them as I do the Awsome Egyptians.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolutely Awesome book!, October 26, 2004
A Kid's Review
I got this book from my public library whaen I was just 10, and have fallen in love with the whole series. I also have subscribed to the HH Mag collection and it is amazing! I loved this book because it told you the truth and doesnt mess about with dates and stuff. I mean... they are there, but no-one emphasises the point that you have to remember them. Loved it alot and I hope this review was helpful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT horrible!, February 26, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Awesome Egyptians (Horrible History) (Library Binding)
This is an awsome, truly wonderful book for any parent trying to motivate their children to read and enjoy history. terry Deary manages to present historically accurate information in a way that makes reading and learning extremely enjoyable. His use of kooky, strange or disgusting (but true) facts captivate children's minds and imagination, leading them into reading and absorbing other more important facts, as well as broadening their minds and teaching them about different ancient cultures! This book is one of a series that every parent should buy their child.
