When he put this session together in NYC in September of 1997, James Williams put many of his great personal characteristics to work ... among them: 1. His own unique and broad musical talent, 2. His special taste in choosing collaborators (and the charm to get the very best of them into the studio with him), 3. His sensitivity for picking material and tempos to fit the occasion, and 4. The loving and joyous way he seems to bring to every job he tackles. Ray Brown and Elvin Jones become James' perfect partners in this "Magical Trio", and it's importantly due to James' own inspired design. A truly awesome album for all of us who are infected with the joy that is jazz. You will play it again and again, and then one more time.
