A good deal for 2 videos about trucks!,

This was my 2-year-old son's very first video about trucks and he LOVED it! Both videos in the set have a lot of good action footage (not cartoons, real live action) showing trucks at work which is great for kids who are much younger in age. For the older kids, these videos are fun because they talk about how roads are built and describe the functions of the different kinds of equipment. 30-minutes each, the videos are not too long--great for parents who don't like their kids to watch too much tv! But beware: your kid will love it so much that he'll want to see it over and over and over again!

Poor sound quality. Can't understand the child and interviewees. Poor narration. Not enough description of what's happening.

Not the best equipment tape out there,

I gave it 1 star simply because my 3 year old likes it - but what 3 year old boy doesn't like to watch equipment, regardless of how poor the tape is. Interest is usually lost when the kid starts interviewing the transportation workers - it's a little over the heads of children. The music is horrible and I just cringe when he wants to watch this video - we usually try to talk him out of it.

Great trucks and their uses but we need a new narrator,

My two boys love this video for the trucks and their uses. My three year old takes his Tonka trucks and plays along with the trucks in the video. It is a good thing kids have such a great imagination because with this narrator, they need it.

Kids Dig Diggers, Even With This Schlocky Tape,
By A Customer
This review is from: Awesome Road Construction [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The sound and recording quality are terrible. It's recorded in EP and half the tape is blank. Inexplicably, there aren't many good, clear shots of the machines at work and the tape ends in Kafkaesque fashion with a scene of a loader vainly attempting and ultimately failing to get a couple of old wooden beams into a dump truck: metaphor? or just lousy production values? Generally, the work scenes seem pointless and provide no context whatsoever. Is it too much to show a hole after a backhoe digs one out? Instead we get backhoes scooping up dirt here and dumping it there. How about a finished freeway? I know what I'm looking at and can make the inferential leap from "empty lot with lots of machines" to "Modern Superhighway" but I don't think my 2 year old can. The production seems somewhat slapped together and homemade. Someone's kid even serves as the "host" of the tape and conducts an uninteresting interview with two Washington State transportation schmoes. But I'll give it a second star because our son watches the tape several times a day. Go figure.

quality of soundtrack and tape leaves much to be desired,

The narrator uses the wrong names for the equipment. The whole tape is in one location in Seattle, WA. There is just a gloss over on each machine and what it does. I have a 2 year-old who watched it approximately 12 times a week but the soundtrack and tape gave out after 2 months
