Review

"...will not only delight children with its doggy fun but their parents as well. Librarians and Language Arts teachers will also love all of wordplay." --- Suite 101

From AudioFile

Jack Russell, dog detective, has the neighborhood well under surveillance, or so he thinks. One fine day, when he finds no dogs out and about, he decides it is his mission to determine what creature is terrorizing (or terrier-izing--in dogspeak) the neighborhood such that no dog, or cat, will leave home. Alan King takes the animal world to heart and to voice. He is a boisterous and authoritative Jack--until the Awful Pawful has Jack terrier-fied. Kings neighborhood dogs are portrayed playfully and distinctly, and his scared/angry dog and cat sound effects will make any dog, cat, or human cringe. Each chapters endnotes become a way of confirming the young listeners understanding of dogspeak in the preceding segment. 5.0 out of 5 stars Another great dog den mystery, with a twist, November 5, 2007

This review is from: The Awful Pawful (Jack Russell: Dog Detective) (Paperback)
Another great dog den mystery! While the first few books were easy enough for 1st graders to read, the Awful Pawful and The Sausage Situation are a little more complex. Both have a twist to the story which make them much more interesting for adults. My 2nd grade son was able to read this book fairly easily. It might also be right for some 3rd graders. Highly recommended. I look forward to the next two books which are available in Australia, but yet in the US.
