Editorial Reviews

"Awkward Buildings" is an album that Dr. Dave Bowman's son would have been listening to on his headphones, waiting for an aero plane. Ceaselessly trying to track down the elusiveness of Man's relationship with god, it is, at the same time, a pointed rant against religious establishment and something to listen to on a long drive. The album features performances by a stellar group of musicians from North Carolina and New York City including Drew Heller (Toubab Krewe), Tyler Ramsey, Bill Reynolds (Drug Money), Ethan Eubanks (Ivy), Mike Oliverio (Good Evening, Adam Richman) and Whynot (Gavin DeGraw), and a special performance by the late Bob Moog. With one ear to the ground, the other to the sky, always observing humanity with a sideways smile and a fist, J DiMenna delivers the most professional, profound and prophetic album from an unknown artist in years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic album, November 7, 2006
This review is from: Awkward Buildings (Audio CD)
I haven't stopped playing this album since I bought it. At first it seems like a bunch of nice songs with beautiful production. After you keep listening, different layers open up and lyrics jump out and then you realize that it is making a huge statement about the current situation of religious conflict both in the world and within individuals. Destined to be revisted in the future. Buy it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Album, April 13, 2006
This review is from: Awkward Buildings (Audio CD)
When I hear a new artist I'm normally reluctant to fall in love with a first listen, but after my first listen to J. DiMenna's Awkward Buildings I was hooked. I had the good fortune to be able to hear this album for the first time last summer and have proceeded to listen to it many times since. I recommend it.
