Book Description

February 14, 2012
They may not mean to make you blush, but they will. In their debut collection of essays, Awkward Moments with Men, Shannon and Megan create an uninhibited and earnest portrait of what it is to love and lust as young women stammering through perils of the modern world. Belonging in the hapless, hilarious, if not slightly sordid family of wordsmiths, Awkward Moments with Men introduces two strikingly original and endearing voices into the literary landscape. May you laugh, commiserate, and start a fund to help them pay for all therapy they're going to need once their parents read this.

About the Author

Shannon Lee Miller (The Blonde) is a Canadian who mysteriously ended up in the Deep South. It probably had something to do with her weakness for feathered hair and push-up bras, but no one can be certain. She spent three years as a songwriter for Appalach Music (Milsap/Galbraith Publishing) in Nashville, TN where she pursued superstardom and lonely cowboys. During that time, she also released an ill-fated record through OnRamp/EMI Records in her home and native land. She still plays music but is pretty sure she's technically washed up, as Taylor Swift is both younger and taller than her. In 2006, she earned an Honors B.A. in History and Celtic Studies from the University of Toronto. Obtaining a degree in Celtic Studies seemed like a lovely idea at the time, but she soon learned that a basic understanding of Scottish Gaelic is not all that important in the business world. She probably should have taken Mandarin. For several years prior, she immersed herself in equestrian sports and competed successfully at the national level, until that is, she discovered boys. She hopes one day, to complete her graduate degree in History at Harvard. She has thus far, finished only one Internet course, but she got a B plus which isn t bad. She currently resides in the dodgy end of nice neighborhood with her very patient husband, two mentally handicapped dogs, and cable television.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun read February 15, 2012
Format:Paperback
I read this book cover to cover on a long flight yesterday. I laughed out loud, I cried, and most importantly I generally felt better about my personal stockpile of awkward moments with men that I have collected over the years. This book is equal parts heartfelt and humorous, and at times I wanted to reach out and hug the authors and say "I've been there too." It's the kind of book that has you retelling the stories to friends over lunch and encouraging your whole book club to read it and discuss it with you (they include book-club questions!).

5.0 out of 5 stars masculine musings February 14, 2012
Format:Paperback
when my wife first pitched me on the prospect of reading this book, i was suspect. feminine humor, ugh. wouldn't i rather be doing something more enjoyable on a saturday afternoon, like clipping my toenails with splintered chopsticks? alas, wifey's sexy wink convinced me to give it a go, and after about 50 pages i wondered if i would be able to put the thing down. i'm now revisiting this page to order more copies as gifts for friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!! February 28, 2012
Format:Paperback
Before I began reading it, I skimmed over some of the reviews who claimed this book made them both laugh and cry. Being one of the most fussy and demanding people when it comes to anything in the realm of `entertainment', I quickly dismissed the claims of these leaky eyed people. But a few nights later there I was, curled up in bed with my own set of leaky eyes and just loving every moment of it. This book is emotionally relatable, hilarious and seriously entertaining! I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard while reading a book. And I'm not talking about a mild chuckle; I'm talking full blown, uncontrollable laughter. This book is definitely going to be sitting proudly on my fussy bookshelf and shoved in the faces of my friends. I love it!
