Durable, useful bags for your rear rack,
By Fred (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews

I have used the bags for over a year for bicycle commuting to work and they provide ample space to haul a laptop computer on one side, and work-clothes, etc on the other side. There are 2 clamps on each bag for the rear rack, plus a swivel lock on the underside of the bag to hold them tight onto the rack. There is also a hook with an elastic cord on the bottom for each bag. I've ridden over 1,000 miles with the bags and they have not fallen off or come loose. The elastic cords on the top of the bags are useful to hold additional odd shaped items. The bags are water resistant, but if it's raining, some water may leak in from the bottom, so it's best to store a laptop computer in a plastic bag.

Axiom Cartier Rear Panniers,

First off... I thought I was buying only one bag, but when I received the package there were two.
I havent used them much yet but I can tell by the way the bags are constructed that they will serve my purpose well. They mount easily to my bike and have plenty of space for my daily, 20 mile, commute. They came with a small bag of extra clips, locks. Speaking of clips, these are metal and appear to be very sturdy. They come off the bike quickly and with little effort. The bags took longer to get to me than I expected, but I dont think that was the fault of the seller. I bought them a couple of days before Christmas and there was a lot of bad weather in the Midwest etc. Anyway, Niagara Cycle Works did a great job in providing a better product than what I was expecting. Thanks - Bicycle commuter in Portland, Oregon. UPDATE: November 3, 2009... I felt compelled to add some additional comments to my original post almost two years ago. I use these bags 4-5 days a week, all seasons. I live in the Pacific Northwest where I currently am commuting in a concoction of rain and fallen leaves and winter debris on roads. These bags have held up extremely well. I have had zero problems with them. When I bought them I was running a hybrid Trek MTN Bike. I recently switch to a 700c road bike. With a new rack, they fit right on and have had no trouble with them at all. I would not hesitate to buy this product again. I have rarely been more satisfied with a product as I have been with this one. Great job and kudos to the mfg.

Like the other reviewer, you get and left and right pannier, even though the picture seem to only show one. They seem to be a very nice for the price. I've only used mine a few times but I am happy with them thus far.

Hooked up these babies on my first ride to work and they work well. They are big enough for my laptop and a change of cloths and shoes. They seem to be well made. These bags are not big enough for touring but I think they're perfect size for commuting or a picnic with the family. Workmanship and design is good. No complaints.

I am extremely pleased with these panniers. I was looking for something to use for my daily bicycle commute to work, and these are perfect for that. They are well made, functional, and attractively styled. They are the perfect size for carrying a large laptop, lunch, and change of clothes. The price is also very much lower than any similar products in my local bike shop.

Very durable little bags,

This is my very first pannier set, and for the price, it's fantastic. The materials used to make it and the craftsmanship have kept this bag together (and fairly clean), rain or shine. The advertising says that the outer material is water resistant and the underside is rubber to keep water from seeping up. The bags were really put to the test when I was riding with a friend at the park one day down a rough path and it suddenly started to rain very hard. I was worried that things inside the bags would get soaked because it seemed like the outer material was being saturated with water. In the end the bags were mud-caked but the things inside were relatively dry. There were very little puddles of water at the bottom of each bag though, so I wouldn't recommend taking these out if you know it's going to rain.
The reflective stripes on the bag don't do a whole lot to caution drivers but at least it's something. The insides are more spacious than they first appeared. In one bag I'm able to put my 15 inch laptop along with 1 or 2 text books and a notepad. The top of each bag (under the top flap) is a draw-string, so you can really close up the top. My only complaint is that even though I have an Axiom rack in the back of my bike, these panniers don't stay on them too well. If I were on a very smooth road the whole time, I think they would be fine, but it feels like the littlest bump might jounce them off the rack. (It's happened a couple of times!) I ended up tethering them together and to the rack using velcro strips straps you can get a craft stores by sticking them through the strap loops on the back of each bag - this keeps them nice and tight, and they don't fall off anymore.

Well worth the money spent,
This review is from: Axiom Cartier Rear Panniers 1220 Cubic Inches Black/Silver (Misc.)
These bags were reasonably priced compared to what is sold in the local bike shops. I commute about 12 miles round trip to work 3-4 times a week.
They hold every thing I need, including my lunch, rain gear and other clothes with room to spare. They fit well on my bike rack and seem to be solidly constructed. I'm very happy with them.

I've only used these a few times so far, but I really like them! I usually put a laptop in one side and work clothes (business casual, not a full suit) in the other side and there's still a little room to spare. They seem to be good quality and have several really nice features. The features I like the most are:
Outer compartments Detachable strap to put these on your shoulder Small inner compartment sewn into the top flap (big enough to hold small tools, phone, etc.) Also, another review mentioned that these bounce around. I am surprised to hear that, because there is a strap/hook on the back to secure these at the bottom, This hook actually secures them too well - it's a tiny bit cumbersome to take these off. I have started leaving them on when parked in my garage, but do take them off when parked in a public place. |
