Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Axion AXN-6072 is a pretty standard quality 7-inch screen DVD player. It's the kind of DVD player that is good enough to entertain the kids on a long road-trip or flight. The main body of the player is pretty portable, with a fold down screen. However, the big NiMH (2300 mah) battery that clips to the end of it adds extra size, bulk, weight to the DVD player. Included in the box, you'll also get an AC adapter (which is amazing small in size), a car power adapter, a tiny card sized remote, AV cables (for input/outputting video), manual booklet, and the already mentioned... big NiMH battery. Here are the pro's and cons of the player from testing the movie "Bolt" on it.
Pros: -Adjustable volume, and brightness controls. -2 headphone jacks, so you can enjoy the movie with a friend. -built-in stereo speakers -There's a dedicated button for screen ratio "Wide-screen or Full-Screen" mode. -Plays CDs and Mp3s -The player itself (without battery) is small and very portable. -Widescreen resolution is nice (720 x 480 pixels to be exact) -Folding screen hinge is sturdy and stays well in adjustable position -High Contrast ratio screen... the blacks get pretty deep. -LCD screen has a "matte" surface as opposed to the "glossy screen"... which is nice to reduce glare. I know that some people prefer the glossy screen though... so this is a matter of preference. -Battery does not over-heat during charging. And charge time is relatively short (2-3 hours) -Built-in Stereo speakers can get pretty loud and sound ok. The quality of the sound when output to external speakers or headphones is also good. -Battery (although big and ugly) does last very long... it lasted over 3 hours in my battery drain test. I used Spiderman the movie as my test DVD. Cons: -The screen is high contrast, but you lose lots of detail in the mid-range. This means you get lots of white "hotspots" where it can block out much of the detail in the light colors. -The Pixels can sometimes look jagged... this is especially noticeable with words and images with lots of detail. But if you view the screen from 2 feet or further, you probably won't notice it at all. -The battery is big, heavy, and bulky. It's also a NiMH battery as opposed to Lithium Ion... which means you will have to discharge it (run it until it's dead) all the way before recharging it, if you want it to last. Otherwise, the battery won't last long. -No carrying case included... but they rarely ever do include these. Conclusion: For the price that this is being offered, it's actually a pretty nice and affordable little player. The biggest drawback is that the LCD screen could look better and the battery could be smaller or more integrated into the player. Keep in mind that I'm very very picky when it comes to LCD quality. If you're buying this for a child, I'm sure they'll be very pleased with how the screen looks. The color saturation is actually very good on it and it does a good job displaying the warm spectrum of colors. It's just the pixelation, bright hot-spots, and loss of detail (due to hot-spots) that annoys me. But this is a common issue for portable DVD players across the board. For what you get at this price, you couldn't really expect much more.

I struggled greatly with giving this 4 stars, but I decided that I had to factor in price / value to properly review it. This is designed to be an inexpensive video player and for the price it gets the job done.
The DVD player actually has several really nice features that I didn't expect. For example, it has dual headphone outputs so two people can easily listen to a movie. In a quiet room, the speakers would work for more people but they certainly wouldn't be loud enough in a car. Another surprising feature is the ability to hook it up to external monitors. The two things that I found rather disappointing were the size and weight of the battery and that words are not clear on the screen. I started up my first movie and I almost immediately thought that I wouldn't be able to finish the movie because the words on the menu were blocky and difficult to read. However, once I started the movie I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the picture. Subtitles still looked bad, but the actual movie looked pretty good. The bottom line on this player is that it is inexpensive and it feels inexpensive, but for the price it let's you watch movies in a compact package. It comes with all the cables you'd need, but it could come with something to carry it in. If you want a truly high quality screen, then you'll need to look elsewhere and spend more money. Of course if you are going to spend more money, one must wonder if you really should be buying a really low-end notebook computer, such as a netbook from HP with a DVD drive.

I purchased this to play exercise videos in a room that does not have access to a tv and/or dvd player. It fits the bill perfectly. The picture and sound quality are more than adequate for my purposes. It's a little small for watching full length movies IMO, but would work fine if you don't mind the small screen. It even came with a remote control.

My first impression of the player after unboxed was..Cheap!! It felt cheap, even the manual looked cheap. Turned it on, and the screen looked cheap. You could barely read the FBI warning when it came on and I thought, oh, just another cheap product from China.
But, wait a minute! When the movie started playing, the screen seemed transformed to another machine. Color was good, screen was sharp and audio very decent. The remote control that came with the player is credit card-type with all required buttons. Buttons' labels are small, I have to put on my glasses to read it. It also has to be pointed a certain way to work with the player. I popped in a dvd packed with MP3s, and it seemed to handle the music just fine. Sounds were decent and clear. As long as you don't expect Bose sound, you are ok. However, the folders on the dvd as displayed, again looks cheap. Very low resolution. I tried it with another CD that contained digital pictures with original sizes (4,5 MB). And this was where the player really slowed down. I guess that if you resize the images to 400, 500K then performance could be acceptable. The pictures, of course, dumbed down to screen resolution. Decent, but nothing worth bragging about. The player comes with an ugly looking battery that snapped to the back. I have not tried to test it with the whole movie, so have no idea how long it lasts. Will update later when I find out. I would call it a utility dvd player. Does the job with decent picture and audio, but that's about it. Good to take to the beach or where you don't worry about ruining it or being stolen. Ok for the price. Spend another $50-$100 and you get much better player. 4/16/09 UPDATE: Like I said..CHEAP!! I took it on a trip, put it into my briefcase and flew to California. When I got there, I popped a DVD in and the plaer just refused to work. Only audio, no pictures. I played with all the settings, then gave up. Guess it is too much to hope for. And this player is only 2 weeks old.

DVD player that can't play DVDs !!!,

I purchase this one, as it had a great price - but when getting it, it couldn't read any DVD and CD, and insist on "no disc" message.
I contact the Axion customer service, but haven't got any replay back. Lucky me that Amazon is enabling you to return defective products (although I haven't seen my money back yet..). Don't waste your money on this one ...

i was enticed by the $49.99 short term price. there is a reason it is so cheap. i have had it two days and it already doesn't work. it started where it was skipping as if the battery/power was not connecting and then the screen stopped playing a full image and the image being shown was scrambled. there is a reason this is so cheap. save your time and money and get something better.

I was looking for a DVD player that did not cost an arm or leg and came across this one. It seemed to have all the nice features of more expensive ones.
I like the remote it seems to have very good range unlike some. The screen is nice with the wide format and is viewable at angles also so more than one kid can watch it. The battery life is very good at about three hours. The things that I did not like so much was the fact the the battery will not charge while you are using it, the unit must be turned off for it to charge. It did not come with a dc car charger and a carring case. Overall though for the money its not bad at all and it works!! Yes I would recommend this DVD player.

Stopped Working After Playing 4 DVD's,

I have had another Axion portable dvd player for 4 years and have had no problems. I bought this one because it was smaller and it would be easier to carry.
The first three DVD's played even though the picture quality wasn't the best, but it was functional. Near the end of the 4th DVD it stopped. I used the included remote to get back to the menu--nothing. I then pressed stop, and got the stop symbol on the screen. I then turned it off and waited a few minutes. I powered it back on and it loaded for about 3 minutes then displayed a "No Disc" message. I tried three more times with the same disc and still got the message. I then used the other DVD's that had played before, as well as a playable CD to ensure it wasn't the DVD. None of them loaded. The other thing I noticed was when I touched the player, it felt as if the player wasn't even spinning at all. So, I had a usable DVD player for 4 days before it basically died. As I said the other Axion has worked great, but this was a lemon.
