Product Description

Amazon.com Product Review

The Axis 250S MPEG-2 Video Server is an easy way to provide remote monitoring of images over a network. Unlike traditional video monitoring, which requires dedicated monitors and expensive coax cables, the Axis 250S lets you connect a video cameras directly to any Ethernet network, intranet, or even the Internet. Any surveillance application -- from intruder detection, process control, and industrial or public surveillance to visual security and image archiving -- can benefit from the low-cost, functionality and versatility of the Axis 250S.

The Axis 250S Camera Server is a one-port network server that distributes live images, or DVD-quality video and CD-quality synchronized audio over an intranet or the Internet. With a built-in Web Server and a direct network connection, the Axis 250S allows high-quality remote surveillance from any browser on the network. The Axis 250S features Pan/Tilt/Zoom support for remote camera control, remote MPEG file upload via FTP, and event functionality with alarm notification via email, TCP or HTTP. Because the Axis 250S is a self-contained Web server, it can be secured like any other Internet host. Using the unit's security settings, such as password protection and IP address filtering, an administrator can assign whether individuals, groups, a whole company or the whole world can access the server.

With an MPEG-2 compression chip providing real-time compression, the Axis 250S is capable of handling up to 24 Megabytes-per-second and delivering 30 frames per second (frames-per-second). This server has 16 MB of RAM which allows some pre-alarm video storage, as well as four MB of flash memory which allows firmware updates over the network. NTSC or PAL configurable, this video server has seven video-quality levels and a resolution of up to 720 by 576 pixels. Two terminal block connectors provide four digital alarm inputs and a single transistor output. The 250S includes one BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman, RF-type) composite video, one Y/C (S-VHS) and one line input. Powered by an (included) external nine-volt DC power supply, this server can operate in temperatures from five- to 50-degrees Celsius.

Technical Features:

  • Resolution: 720 x 576 pixels
  • Video inputs: 1 BNC composite, 1 Y/C, and 1 line-input
  • Frame rate: up to 30 frames per second
  • Serial connections: two RS-232C, a wireless modem, and a pan/tilt/zoom
  • Operating temperatures: 5- to 50-degrees Celsius
  • Dimensions: approximately 11.2 x 13.3 x 2.7 centimeters (W x D x H)
The Axis 250S is a reliable, economical and high-quality camera server system designed to be used over the Internet or internal networks. The Axis 250S includes MPEG-2 Decoder with three licenses, so up to three viewers can watch simultaneously from different PCs. Users should note, however, that browser-based viewing requires: Windows 2000 or XP, IE explorer 5.5 or higher, and DirectX 9 or higher, all on at least a Pentium III with 256MB of RAM and an AGP-card with 32MB memory and support for DirectDraw.

What's in the Box
