4.0 out of 5 stars War at Sea, March 22, 2007
This review is from: Axis and Allies Minis Starter War At Sea (Toy)
This game falls on the heels of another Axis and Allies miniatures game. This is the first set in the series and I feel there will be follow on sets. It is a collector game, meaning some of the miniatures are hard to come buy and some fetch as much as $25.00 for a single piece. The starter set contains enough to get you started and you will want to buy more after that. So it falls into more of a hobby than just a game. Some serious gamers buy these by the case of twelve will spend hundreds of dollars to complete the set. You do not have to spend this much to enjoy the game.

What I do like about the game most of all is it gets me out of the house and spend good time with friends. Some players bring their teenage kids to games and they always have a good time. The game is accurate in terms of ships and World War 2 history and can teach kids a few different things. My advice to someone who has never bought this type of item in the past is, buy a starter and booster and try it out. If you don't like it you are out $40.00 and could probably make that money back by selling your rare ships. If you do enjoy it, don't blame me if you go broke buying more.

This review is from: Axis and Allies Minis Starter War At Sea (Toy)
The original War at Sea seemed like a fun offshoot of the epic Axis & Allies franchise. Unfortunately, Wizards of the Coast has fired the lead designer and many of the others associated with this product. The game is now dead. Fortunately, it wasn't all that great to begin with as the miniatures were often incorrectly sculpted and scaled and the gameplay was downright elementary. The strongest units were fantasy that never even fought in the war and iconic ships that actually fought were never made. Even if you can overlook all of that, the minis themselves were plagued by quality issues, including bent boats, missing turrets, and horrific paint jobs.
