Quit wondering...just get it!, April 9, 2010
This review is from: Axis Bold As Love (Vinyl) (Vinyl)
If you're scared about getting shafted on an audiophile pressing, don't worry. This delivers the goods. Blows the reprise tri color out of the water, creams the two tone and sounds as good if not better than the Track pressings. Dead quiet, straight, great music. Keep the 60's pressings around for nostalgia, have this for the sound.

Outstanding!, June 12, 2010
This review is from: Axis Bold As Love (Vinyl) (Vinyl)
I've owned this album on CD for over 20 years and it was always one that I'd play all the way through whenever I had the chance. So, when I discovered that Hendrix's albums were being re-released on 180 gram vinyl, I just ordered up a few of them. I'm really glad that I did because I have never been more impressed with the sound quality of a music purchase in my life! When I put this record on, I don't really know what I expected, but it really blew me away. It was as if I'd never listened to this album before. I was so excited that I played it again for my wife when she got home. Now just to clarify, I have a good ear for music, but my equipment is somewhat lacking. It's just some mismatched 15 to 25 year old equipment that I threw together on the kitchen counter as a sort of bookshelf system when were moving into our new home (it ended up staying there). So don't go thinking you have to have some multi-thousand dollar audiophile setup to really enjoy this. The record comes in a beautiful gatefold sleeve with lyrics on the inside and included is a 7-page booklet that has pictures, lyrics and a story about the album. Well worth the money!!!

Be Aware Of Pressing Issues!, September 19, 2010
This review is from: Axis Bold As Love (Vinyl) (Vinyl)
Hello.
I bought this Vinyl edition of Axis:Bold As Love and AYE and EL 2010 Sony editions, got them a couple of weeks ago and tonight
just opening them to give em a play and the outcome is mixed but this is NOT to imply that
Amazon is the cause of this, so without further ado.....
Axis: First thing right off the bat, side one is pressed OFF CENTER! Like by 1/8"!! Not a little, not a smidgin,
but literally I'm watching the needle/tone arm moving oh so gently back and forth.....not good people for an
AUDIOPHILE PRESSING!!! I can hear the 'wobble' if that's what you want to call it.
Before we go into the sound of this I also want to say that my copy of ARE and EL
all three are affected by side one being pressed OFF CENTER. Side two of Axis and ARE are good, but it is
disconcerting that all three copies I received have the same defect. And Axis's side one label is even off big
time!! Not a good thing again for an Audiophile pressing-I will be returning them for replacements and will
let you all know how that turned out.....now for the Audio on Axis, which is the one I listened to all the way
through.........WOW!!! I DON'T know how to say it properly. The audible difference in listening to the compact disc
issues, doesn't matter which one really, to this particular Re-Issue, is beyond words. Headphones do it justice and
over the speakers it's so totally different, but just to say, it IS true, this Analog Vinyl issue just sounds so right, and
it makes the cd issue harsh and totally fake. Janie at Experience Hendrix did it right on these. But...... you still have
the drawbacks of vinyl to deal with, limited high end 'level' as compared to the cd and an overall laidback presentation
compared to the compact discs 'in your face with loudness' sound. So, where do I go from here?? Well I honestly don't
know. But this Vinyl edition, sonic wise, is very very Natural sounding and leaves the cd issue in the dust.
More Later as this progresses.
