5.0 out of 5 stars Quit wondering...just get it!
If you're scared about getting shafted on an audiophile pressing, don't worry. This delivers the goods. Blows the reprise tri color out of the water, creams the two tone and sounds as good if not better than the Track pressings. Dead quiet, straight, great music. Keep the 60's pressings around for nostalgia, have this for the sound.

3.0 out of 5 stars Be careful bass boost
Anyone considering purchasing this title on Legacy should be aware that the has been very significant bass boost applied to the vinyl release of Axis. Appparently this sounds the same as the previous universal re-issue and on my system it results in unacceptably boomy bass on many tracks(Rega turntable). I have several other copies of Axis (including an original...

I've owned this album on CD for over 20 years and it was always one that I'd play all the way through whenever I had the chance. So, when I discovered that Hendrix's albums were being re-released on 180 gram vinyl, I just ordered up a few of them. I'm really glad that I did because I have never been more impressed with the sound quality of a music purchase in my life! When I put this record on, I don't really know what I expected, but it really blew me away. It was as if I'd never listened to this album before. I was so excited that I played it again for my wife when she got home. Now just to clarify, I have a good ear for music, but my equipment is somewhat lacking. It's just some mismatched 15 to 25 year old equipment that I threw together on the kitchen counter as a sort of bookshelf system when were moving into our new home (it ended up staying there). So don't go thinking you have to have some multi-thousand dollar audiophile setup to really enjoy this. The record comes in a beautiful gatefold sleeve with lyrics on the inside and included is a 7-page booklet that has pictures, lyrics and a story about the album. Well worth the money!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Aware Of Pressing Issues!, September 19, 2010

Hello.
I bought this Vinyl edition of Axis:Bold As Love and AYE and EL 2010 Sony editions, got them a couple of weeks ago and tonight
just opening them to give em a play and the outcome is mixed but this is NOT to imply that
Amazon is the cause of this, so without further ado.....
Axis: First thing right off the bat, side one is pressed OFF CENTER! Like by 1/8"!! Not a little, not a smidgin,
but literally I'm watching the needle/tone arm moving oh so gently back and forth.....not good people for an
AUDIOPHILE PRESSING!!! I can hear the 'wobble' if that's what you want to call it.
Before we go into the sound of this I also want to say that my copy of ARE and EL
all three are affected by side one being pressed OFF CENTER. Side two of Axis and ARE are good, but it is
disconcerting that all three copies I received have the same defect. And Axis's side one label is even off big
time!! Not a good thing again for an Audiophile pressing-I will be returning them for replacements and will
let you all know how that turned out.....now for the Audio on Axis, which is the one I listened to all the way
through.........WOW!!! I DON'T know how to say it properly. The audible difference in listening to the compact disc
issues, doesn't matter which one really, to this particular Re-Issue, is beyond words. Headphones do it justice and
over the speakers it's so totally different, but just to say, it IS true, this Analog Vinyl issue just sounds so right, and
it makes the cd issue harsh and totally fake. Janie at Experience Hendrix did it right on these. But...... you still have
the drawbacks of vinyl to deal with, limited high end 'level' as compared to the cd and an overall laidback presentation
compared to the compact discs 'in your face with loudness' sound. So, where do I go from here?? Well I honestly don't
know. But this Vinyl edition, sonic wise, is very very Natural sounding and leaves the cd issue in the dust.
More Later as this progresses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Album Gets First Rate Treatment, May 26, 2010

If you are reading this, of course you know this is a keeper of major proportions. As for the sound, in a word, it's phenomenal. One very minor point here: a prior reviewer did make note of the bass boost and when I first put the album on, the bass was a bit much for my tastes and did find this to be the case in a few parts of the album. This slight issue is more than offset many times over by the absolute overall clarity. I might also add that the stunning sound effects on the record come across in super fashion. The only possible way you will match or perhaps even exceed the superb sound here would be to purchase some very expensive Japanese import cd. Buy it and enjoy the wonders of vinyl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best format for the period., August 10, 2011

I received this album in a very short time with standard shipping. Amazon LP boxes are the best way to ship these delicate discs. The sound quality is phenomenal when compared to CD. Digital processing leaves out the natural quality, which is obvious if you see my LP collection versus my CD collection, and Im only 24. Its not an original Reprise pressing from 1967, but good luck finding one in pristine condition for a reasonable price. I played this album on a $140 CD/Tape/Turntable unit, and a $1,000 Technics rack system, not much difference in sound despite higher grade EQ. If you love Hendrix, I highly recommend going vinyl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best sounding vinyl I own, July 9, 2011
This review is from: Axis Bold As Love (Vinyl) (Vinyl)
At first I picked up the CD's of Axis and Ladyland and the vinyl of Experienced. After hearing how much better the vinyl sounds I returned the CDs for the vinyl copies. Really, these are the best sounding vinyl albums I own! A tremendous pressing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Analog - The only way to listen to Hendrix, June 18, 2011

Okay, so I'm a rabid Jimi fan. Sue me. I like other music too. However, I won't just buy any ole thing that comes down the "Jimi" pike and this is well worth the price paid.

Sure we've all heard this album before but this vinyl pressing puts it into new light. Crisp highs, warm bass and incredible drum sounds. Simply amazing! Far -outshines- the CD versions of this record. With more "space" and depth between the instruments it's warmer and exceptionally realistic. It's like you're sitting cross-legged on the floor while the band plays.

The guitars shriek and howl without any unpleasant high frequencies, sounding more like a "real" guitar. The mix is fabulous and you'll find yourself hearing things you didn't notice before - you'll say what instrument is THAT?. Very cool record that hits you right in the gut. All songs are great. Multiple listens yields greater results!

I've read other reviews where someone stated they couldn't hear a difference between the CD and the vinyl, and I think this is very sad that one cannot discern between the two. With a fresh cover and a fresh groove, this will keep me going for years.

Do yourself a favor and get a GOOD pair of headphones, dim the lights, turn on the lava lamp and just relax; this is the best way to enjoy the mastery of Hendrix!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm a Hippie, June 28, 2010

This review is from: Axis Bold As Love (Vinyl) (Vinyl)
I'm a hippie, at least I was 40 years ago and "Axix, Bold as Love" is hot hot hot! Listening to it with my eyes closed put a smile on face that i could not remove for days. This was a good time in my life. I had left home early because my father raped me, people who I didn't even know down at Venice beach, let me live with them and fed me and still go to school. This album was played every night and even though I did not smoke pot at the time i would close my eyes and get just as high as everyone else in the room. Well, that high is still there, this is an album that needs no drugs, it Jimi's at his coolest, best!

Appparently this sounds the same as the previous universal re-issue and on my system it results in unacceptably boomy bass on many tracks(Rega turntable). I have several other copies of Axis (including an original Australian black label Polydor and the Classics mono re-issue) and none of them have this artifically boosted bass response.
