As with other Axis cameras (e.g M1011-W), initial setup is slightly confusing based on user-manual but once you get passwords set the camera works great.

I really like the software, it allows you to adjust the camera settings in great detail.

The quality of the image is very good for an ip-cam. In normal light situations, movement is fairly clear and camera can pick up decent lip-movement. Under lower light conditions, movement starts to become more blurry. I have to adjust some settings to see if I can remove the blur from low-light situations, but as of now, that isn't a primary concern.

As a comparison to the Axis M1011-W, image quality is much better (due to HD), and it covers greater area. Just don't be fooled by 0 lux advertisement, since the camera still needs decent light to get a good quality image.

I am glad I purchased this camera (M1034-W) and I will def. return to Axis in the future for camera needs. Might be a bit more expensive, but quality is better.

Update:

Removing Blur: Adjusting some of the "camera settings" such as exposure level (~70), Exposure Priority (Motion), and color settings for my lighting seemed to fix the issue. Still a slight blur when the lighting gets lower, but good enough to see/ make out faces if needed.

Camera is still functioning great after 1 year of being installed. The motion detection is not all that great, as the ambient lighting will affect the detection (e.g. if set up in afternoon light, it works fine during the afternoon, but once the night comes or morning and you change lighting sources, the detection can get triggered more easily).

The PIR function is great though, and I recommend getting the versions with it. I usually run PIR and not the motion detection.

Main uses.. checking on a vacation house while away.

I have several Axis cameras.. most of which has been discontinued... i.e. Axis 207MW. WIth this new unit they did something to how the picture is processed which results in a picture of less quality than their older mega pixel unit. The best way I can describe it is they process small objects in a way that distorts them... i.e. a picture of a tree with leaves on it (at a medium distance) looks kind of pixelated.

This may be picky but I use my cams as "weather" cams and they make the foreground tree line look distorted.

For use on indoor subjects or large objects the camera works fine. It has good audio quality and even, sort of, allows you to talk through the camera.. i.e. 2 way audio.

I just wish the image was a bit better.

and I have five others (Panasonic, Samsung, DropCam, TrendNet, and Sharx). Their software is very flexible (it's not for the average consumer, though, it helps if you know how to set up networking products) and well-designed. My two biggest complaints are the small fonts in the setup menu and its relatively slow response time. However, given how everything else is much better than the competition (a big thing is you don't need to go through a third party, like Samsung or Dropcam, to set up and view the camera), I give it 5 stars (it's relative to its competition, not what it could be). The video image looks good. I will buy more of these to replace the obsolete Panasonic cameras that I have in use.

Edit: After using it for a while, I am lowering my rating. The sensitivity of the PIR sensor is difficult to set - I either get no motion detection or false detections. I haven't been able to get the motion detection using the change in the video image working, either, as it requires a browser with java and it says none of the browsers I have tried use java.

There is no pan, tilt, or zoom (not even digital zoom), and while initially I didn't think it would matter, it does, and for this price (almost $300) it should have them. And the very slow response time for the UI is very annoying when it takes many changes to get it set up.

So while the image is acceptable and the setup very flexible, it's not good enough overall. I will keep looking.

Nice wide angle. Perfect HD image on good light conditions. Using the Axis Companion makes it amazing, no need for a dedicated computer for recording and viewing. I AM changing all my cams to Axis because of the Companion. If you need IR vision this is not for you.

We've got about 60 cameras across a couple of campuses - a mix of cheap and quality ones, and Axis cams always give us the best performance. You do get what you pay for.
