I needed a stand for my old Triumph 3-speed middleweight (basically the same as a Raleigh). I live in San Francisco and center-stands are much more stable for parking on our hills than are side-stands, at least as long as they're sturdy. I admit that it took a bit of figuring to get the stand mounted on my frame, what with the Sturmey-Archer 3-speed hub spindle, the fender stays, my rear rack and other bits that attach to the rear of the frame, but once it was on, the stand was rock solid. Just how solid? You can sit on your bike and move around, and it's not going anywhere.

One of the things I most appreciate about it is that it has a little arm on the left side that, when kicked forward, locks the stand in the down position. This not only prevents the bike from rolling off of the stand (an already unlikely scenario), but it functions as another anti-theft device, since it's unlikely that a thief would know that he has to kick the arm back in the other direction to release the lock and allow the stand to fold up. And the spring makes the stand snap up into place when you're ready to go; it doesn't require foot-power.

I would buy this stand again in a heartbeat for any traditional middle-weight bike like a Hercules, Raleigh or Hawthorne. Just be prepared to spend some time and effort in getting it set up correctly. It's not "plug and play", kids.

I love rear axle kick stands. Classic. simple and functional. Works well and looks good on my 1940's Humber. Having enough room on the axle is some times a problem.

We were converting an old bike to a motorized version, and needed a sturdy kickstand to keep it upright when parked. This stand is just that, sturdy!

This is a heavy but solid and sturdy stand, your bike will not tip over in the wind, no matter what you put on the rack!

I read the other reviews before I decided to purchase this product.Wasn't sure if it would work in my particular circumstance.I have a heavy bike and with my bicycles windshield (yes that's right)it's called a Veltop (Classic+ model to be specific) I can ride in the rain without getting wet (it has a top cover like a tent with fiberglass rods and vinyl transparent side curtains). It's (the Veltop) sold online from France.Just do a search Veltop if interested.
Also I have a front carrying bag and amplified speakers and a MP3 Player/Radio on my handlebar. So the front end of my bicycle has a tendency to turn and the bicycle can flop over.
What a dilemma.I do have some bungee cords to temporarily tie the bike to a fence or around a small tree but sometimes I need to get off the bike and have it standing.I do have a rear adjustable single kickstand that works so so though when the front end of the bike inadvertently turns the bicycle will flop over onto the ground.Ouch.

I also recognized that it was doubtful that I would be able to use this on the rear axle of my bicycle (it has a multi speed derailleur instead of an internal hub like a geared Rohloff or NuVinci 360 gearless internal hub or was only single speed bike) so reading David V Harris's "R.V. Madman" post actually encouraged me to try this out on my front wheel.
I wouldn't trust this on a heavy bike by itself as a front kickstand however in my case it proved very useful (my intended use)as what's called a deflopilator which is an accessory sold and used on a Yuba Mundo Cargo Bike that helps prevent the front wheel from unexpectently turning when parked.
