Easy to Install (Even TWICE!),

This review is from: Axxess GMOS-01 02-Up Onstar Harness Adapter with Chime (Electronics)
I purchased this adapter to install an aftermarket radio into my 2004 GMC Envoy. It was very easy to install and works as described. The "chime" that it replaces the factory chime with is a bit awkward sounding at first, but it isn't all that bad.
Just incase you're not entirely sure what this does... In some vehicles (I'm not sure exactly which ones so you'll have to do your own research), the factory installed radios control various other functions such as the chimes. In my 2004 Envoy, the radio also stays on after you turn off the truck until you open a door. This feature and the chimes are lost if you remove the factory radio without using the GMOS-01 adapter. Just make sure it functions properly BEFORE you button everything up! I received a faulty unit the first time around and had to wait for a couple of days to get a new one. If your chimes don't work (the unit's default volume is loud enough) or if the radio stays on after you open your door, then it's a bad unit. OH, and don't forget to buy an antenna adapter as well if you're installing into a newer GM! They use a mini antenna connection that you have to convert into the larger type that aftermarket radios use. Amazon sells the adapter for about ten bucks or so.

Overpriced POS!,
This review is from: Axxess GMOS-01 02-Up Onstar Harness Adapter with Chime (Electronics)
This is the most cheaply made, overpriced POS! I ordered one for my 02' Envoy and installed it following directions to a tee. Directions were very easy and well written. The chimes and Onstar worked but the reciever would not turn on. I returned it for a replacement and the next unit turned the radio on, but I had no chimes or Onstar and the radio would not shut off! I had to turn off manually...even with the key out of the ignition. I called Access direct for tech support with no luck. It was another defective unit! Now I am waiting for a third one. Hopefully the third time is the charm. I looked into this product and found that is has alot of problems. Unfortunatly, you will need it for Onstar, chimes and memory when you turn off the vehicle. I will use another brand if this one arrives defective.
Ok...Got the third one in and it works. All of the chimes do not...like my low fuel chime for example. I was going to try another brand if this one didn't work right. I still want to send it back, but I think I can live without some of the chimes not working. Go with another brand IMO.

The worst thing about this product is the price! It wasn't too hard to install myself, though. One nice thing about this product is that you can lower the chime volume (which I did!). As the title says, it worked on a 2003 Buick Rendezvous.

I used this product to install a Clarion CX-501 into my 2010 Chev Colorado. It works just like it was supposed to, door chimes and on-star still working. It was a bit tight to fit the module and wiring in behind the new deck but in the end it fit and it works well.

I bought this product to install an aftermarket radio in my 2006 Grand Prix. Even though Amazon says that this product does not fit my vehicle it actually does. It works well and retains all the chimes that I would have lost if I did not buy this harness. Some of the wiring on the harness doesn't make sense but the manual is exact and is very clear so installation is easy. Would recommend this product if you want to retain the RAP system in your GM, although it's a little expensive!

Axxess GMOS-01 02-Up OnStar Harness Adapter with Chime Review,

First, the reason the item is being rated at 3 stars, is because the picture displays something different than what comes in the box. The adapter box itself is not square, and it does not have mounting wings on the side. The connecters are the same and do work with my '02 Impala. I have one complaint, that, just testing the chime features out, I leave the headlights on, turn off the car and open the door, the chime doesn't work. Now, I have Twilight Sentinel, so I never need to turn my headlights on or off, but for other vehicles not equipped with this feature, I'd keep a close eye on turning your headlights off. Otherwise, I've installed this product twice in my vehicle with no problems. The wiring may get confusing if you're an amateur, but if you read the directions slowly, carefully, and more than once, I'm sure you'll get it!

You have to buy this product in order for you stereo to work. The install is a little difficult if u have never done it before. For me it was a breeze because I remember all the color codes from when I work at circuit city.

The instructions were easy to follow, but was not very happy about the size of the module box. It does what it says, by letting the chime and radio work as factory. I defenitely recommend it.

I tried to return my item under the 1 year manufacturer's warranty by Metra (Axxess) but Electronic Express denies it. You are way off buying them from an actual distributor from Metra - they beat other competitors prices as well.

It worked in my Chevy 05 Trailblazer!,

Regardless of what another web site posted and their vehicle finder saying this would not work in an 05 Chevy Trailblazer, they were dead wrong. I think they just wanted people to pay their $99 for their more expensive GMOS-04 unit, saying that unit would work in the Trailblazer. Anyway.....
At first I didn't think it would work because I could get two different units to power up and all functions seemed to work but I had a problem getting sound out of any speakers. At first I thought maybe I had blown the internal amp of the new stereo but when the older one worked exactly the same (no sound), I thought that I couldn't possibly have blown the internal amps of both units, could I? so after re-reading the wiring instructions and making sure everything was connected proberly, I began paying attention the blue/white wire that I kept reading that was supposed to be an "amp turn on" wire. I had no clue what that was supposed to be until I read the blue caution tag that was on the blue wire of my older stereo that not only mentioned it could be connected for an auto antenna signal but for and amp signal...etc. Hmmm... So, I connected that blue wire to the blue/white wires of the harness and tried connecting everything in the car. Wallah! I now have sound!! Who would've thought. So, I took the brand new stereo and connected it's blue wire the same as I did the old one....again, Wallah! Sound! I have to admit that I gave this unit 4 starts because in the instructions it mentions these blue/white wires to be amp turn on wires and not auto antenna wires. I think they need to update the instructions and do a bit more research on how different stereo manufacturers use their terms to explain the unit's functions and wires. Also, I am not pleased, as others have mentioned, about the creation of the tones used for the "GM tones". They ARE very loud and short. The original tone was more laid back and sounded as if it were such as a tubular bell being struck and not so peircing to the ear. These sounds out of this unit are just three very loud and fast bursts of tone which will take some getting used to. I know a person can adjust for the loudness but it doesn't make them any more pleasing. The next and final reason for the 4 star rating is because I think it's an awkward idea to just have a person tap the brown wire to ground in order to get the Onstar level louder or softer. Why didn't the makers of this unit simply put a push button on the unit and label it the Onstar volume button so one could just simply push it momentarily to adjust the volume? Currently I am not signed on for the Onstar service anyway so I guess if I get in a crash I'm out of luck by them. I have yet to fully install the new stereo in my dash because I have spent all this time and money making sure it was going to work first before I either install it or put the original stereo back in and forget a new one in this vehicle for now. I hope I can get everything to fit in such a cramped space with stereo, wires, and new oversized box. It is much larger than I expected. All in all I think this company is on the right track and I hope the newer units are better and they have fixed some of these issues that I have read other reviewers have also complained about. I just can't afford to pay the prices for these units at this time. One final question, does anyone know if these units have issues with being battery drainers? Seems I read that by a reviewer some where. Any comments would be great. |
