3.0 out of 5 stars MONSOON OWNERS, READ THIS FIRST
This will not work for monsoon systems. I didn't do my research, but am pretty sure that it didn't say that on the product page, only mentioned that it wouldn't work with onstar. It will not work with any monsoon or bose system. There is another adapter for that: GMOS-04

After purchasing a new head unit for my truck, I questioned myself about buying this item. I thought it wasn't necessary and who needs chimes anyway. I was dead wrong, So I bought it anyway and I am so glad I did. The adapter plugs right into your stock radio connection, which allows you to easily splice/solder all the appropriate new connections from your new radios harness.

Although the contruction quality is questionable (the speaker case on mine was seperated upon opening) it snapped right back together. The wiring diagram provided is very well thought out and detailed. One thing to consider, I plugged in the speaker harness into my stock wiring and put a voltage meter across the connections to test everything before I spliced the new harness with it.

If the chimes are to loud, the instructions will tell you how to cut a piece on the circuit board inside the speaker unit. After cutting it, the volume was great (my original chime was giving me headaches). Installation was difficult due to tight conditions, I ended up zip-tying the speaker unit behind my radio. Works great, I know when im not wearing my seatbelt without getting migranes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for me., January 12, 2012

I am using it in a 2000 Chevy Cavalier and it works great. It also makes it much easier to install the aftermarket radio. In the instructions it shows you a wire you can cut to make the chimes quieter. Make sure to do that. This thing is loud even after quieting it down. I wish that I had covered the speaker grill with electrical tape before I finished. Anything to make it a little quieter. But in the end it does exactly what it is supposed to do. It makes me feel comfortable knowing that my chances of leaving my headlights on after exiting the car are much lower. It's great that I didn't have to solder into the car's ignition wire. The custom GM power wiring is all taken care of with this. If I did it again. I would definitely buy this again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great adapter for GM vehicles, November 22, 2011

I read up on these and found that the easiest way to install a radio was with this little device. And it's completely true. It was very easy to hook up to the radio and it does preserve your tones for those times that you decide to be a rebel and don't wear your seatbelt. Some folks say it's loud and obnoxious. They are probably just mad they had to buy an extra harness. Mine is pleasant and quiet, almost like birds chirping on a breezy sunny day. Ok, maybe not, but at any rate, just tuck the device down behind the glove box or something and it's no big deal. Sure beats having to run another accessory wire which you would have had to do had you not gotten this. Recommended if you want an easy installation.

I bought this for a 2003 Malibu. It works just like the original setup. It's very loud so I suggest you make the alteration to quiet it down. All of that is in the instructions. I was surprised how easy it was to install. I've done my own stereos before but never one of these. I was a little intimidated even though a deck is ten times more complicated and still pretty easy. When I thought I'd have the deck professionally installed along with this item, the cost was ridiculous. Totally glad I did this myself with this much cheaper unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, January 16, 2012
This review is from: Axxess GMRC-01 Class II GM Chime Retention Interface (Electronics)
This is perfect for what I needed it for. I wanted to install an aftermarket radio in my Pontiac Sunfire and without this my car wouldn't 'ding' anymore for reasons like leaving my keys in the ignition or my headlights on. I'm forgetful in that aspect so this is a big help. Some people say that it's too loud but you can adjust the volume so no worries there.

I too, thought this part was unnecessary, but figured I'd get it to make connecting to the new harness easier. It certainly does that! The best part is the wires are clearly marked with their function, like ground, accessory power, right front speaker +, etc. Made making the connections very easy. I agree the chime sound is way too loud, and will try the cut technique to quiet it down.

Installed in my 2005 Chevy Colorado. Installed easily! Highly recommended, replaces factory chimes. Plug and Play. Has two levels of volume for the chimes. I left mine on the highest one. Need to cut a internal jumper wire to go to the lower one. Louder than the factory chimes but not bad.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked as described, TAPE OVER SPEAKER GRILL!, January 4, 2012

This harness and chime retention worked exactly as described. All of the reviews regarding the volume of the unit are accurate. It is EXTREMELY loud. There are instructions detailing how to cut a small solder path on the circut board to knock the volume down. Don't hesitate! Just do it. I then wrapped the entire box with electrical tape covering all but one slot in the speaker grill of the module. With these modifications and the module itself stuffed deep within my dashboard, it now matches the volume of the original chimes that came from the driver door speaker. (2004 Suburban).

3.0 out of 5 stars Axxess GMRC-01 Class II Does the job., January 2, 2012

This review is from: Axxess GMRC-01 Class II GM Chime Retention Interface (Electronics)
This is the weirdest wiring harness I have ever seen. That is not the products fault but GM's fault for putting the door chimes in the radio. I used this for wiring up a new radio to my 04 Silverado single cab base model (No Bose OnStar or anything fancy). The instructions were some what vague. Apparently the red wire running out of the box is power to the radio. After it was all hooked up the chime is on full blast this thing is loud! If you read the instructions you see you need to cut a trace to make it quiet. The box easily opens up and it is written on the board "cut trace for quite".
Pros: Easy to use
Wires are color coded
Chime is a basic bong
Cons: Over priced even with the chime box it should only be like 8-$20 (That's pushing it.) even though you save tons here (I paid about $52 local stores wanted over $100)

It comes way too loud and should have a volume switch if you cut that trace and its too soft your screwed (unless your really good with electronics and can solder it back.)

I gave it 3 stars because it did the job well but lacked in quality for the price. I really wished they would of made harnesses with out the chimes. Who needs a bong to see the door is open or your seat belt is unbuckled. When I bought the truck the chimes where busted and I never noticed until I bought this thing.
