1.0 out of 5 stars Senna Would Have HATED This Book
I was never a Senna supporter. Lauda, Mansell and Schumacher, yes. The book starts out well enough describing Senna's karting days but even then it begins to show the absolute fawning and silly praising that becomes the core theme.

According to this book, Senna MUST have been Mr. Perfect. The man all women want and all men want to be.

The author...

I recommend this book to anyone who truly is an F1 and Ayrton Senna da Silva fan and has some questions about his career as a driver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbiased and thorough, May 22, 2006

This review is from: Ayrton Senna: The Whole Story (Paperback)
Very thorough recount of Sennas life by someone who followed his carreer closely.
Each of the events are well written and exceprts of interviews from all the sides are included. Very unbiased !
It took me a few days to read, I enjoyed and my heart leaped with excietement remebering each season, each headline, etc.
A fantastic recollection of the Incident in Suzuka, and of "the lap" at Donnington.
But as soon as I arrived to Saturday Apr 30th 1994 my eyes were filled with tears and had to put the book back.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Insight, July 17, 2007
This review is from: Ayrton Senna: The Whole Story (Paperback)
Very detailed. Better if more pictures were added.
Truly explains how unique Senna was mainly as a driver and in all that he does. Without a doubt, he was the greatest.

4.0 out of 5 stars For those who want to know about the best emotional driver ever, May 16, 2011

This review is from: Ayrton Senna: The Whole Story (Paperback)
Complete and detailed career of the best driver I've seen. Not as technical as Prost, Schumacher and onthers but with passion never seen before that easily surpasses small tech gaps making him the fastest driver seen on F1 racing world. Book is easy to read and includes lots of statistics.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read, obviously by a big fan of Senna's, November 13, 2009

This review is from: Ayrton Senna: The Whole Story (Paperback)
This was the second of the more focused books about Senna I have read so far, and it was very interesting. The author seemed a bit in awe of Senna's accomplishments, and was obviously a big fan. Though it elevated the point of view at many times to make Senna appear to be an absolutely awesome gifted driver, it couldn't help revealing that Senna was a very driven man. Pun intended. It created the portrait of someone almost in another world when it came to winning, to the point that it seemed as if he didn't even see his fellow drivers as people, but just as annoyances who were getting in the way of his being first to finish. It wasn't as if they were all in it together, competing, all pushing for the championship, and being gentlemen about it, but just that HE was, and get out of my way. It's very clear he was very skilled, and his accomplishments were impressive, but a good sportsman would be a hard title to bestow upon him. To him winning was everything, no matter what, and begs the question, is it?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read...Senna Fan, Or Not, July 25, 2011

This review is from: Ayrton Senna: The Whole Story (Paperback)
I'm a fan of Ayrton Senna and Formula One as well, but you don't have to be either to enjoy this biography that profiles a very unique soul. Christopher Hilton attacks the task of writing the book from the interesting angle of quoting other people's Senna encounters (while mixing in his own as well as Senna's for good measure), but literally using the method as at least 80% of the narrative. It put me off at first, but I quickly warmed to the style. I was impressed with the in-depth study of Senna, breaking his thinking patterns down, and somewhat debunking his legendary enigma. Vivid descriptions of his plight and passion, fully allow the reader to understand his motivations in all aspects of his life, while also portraying him as he was meant to be seen among Senna scholars like myself...as an intelligent, regular man who did extraordinary things. Overall it's a well-written and moving story that I enjoyed, as well as my family - none of whom knew a thing about Senna or F1. I believe anyone who buys this book will read it from cover to cover, feeling completely satisfied.

The author - not a very good one at that - does not stop at this.

And plays with certain instances such as the famous Monte Carlo 1984 event. Its true Senna was gaining on Prost, but what is omitted is that Bellof in the Tyrrell was driving in the rain even QUICKER than Senna and in third was catching him.

I bought this book to learn who Senna was and not to read a description of his racing and the praising and more praising and even MORE praising.

Senna would have hated this book. Anyone being a racing fan during his time will know that.

If you are not someone who wants to pray to Ayrton Senna, then dont bother to buy this book. It is dreadful.
