5.0 out of 5 stars Brazilian Brilliance!, November 8, 2007

Think of Frank McComb doing Brazilian music along the lines of Jobim or Gilberto (and with a lot more jazz than soul thrown in), or maybe Incognito gone Latin, and you'll have an idea of what Ed Motta is all about here. This is my first Ed Motta CD and while I accept that it's entirely possible that he may have done better elsewhere, for me, this one is brilliant. I simply cannot get enough of it. Motta mostly scats but on the odd occasion where he does sing, even though I cannot understand a word he's saying, his warm voice is so beautiful, I simply do not care. I will be getting all his other albums now and I say many thanks to my best bud Joe, for bringing him to my attention.

I'm unable to give any further details as the inner-sleeve notes are all in Portuguese but there is a full jazz band here - piano, trumpet, tenor sax, Fender Rhodes, guitar and the like, all provide interesting backup and some very exciting solos - and at one point during the CD ("Abertura", "Na Rua" and "Canção Em Torno Dele") we even get some opera - though I guess the correct term would be "O Musical Medley" as it's called on the CD. What else could one possibly ask for?

I love this CD in its entirety but "A Charada" is my favourite tune of all. I wonder what it means..?

2.0 out of 5 stars Has a couple of good songs, the rest is just not worth listening to.., March 17, 2006
This review is from: Aystelum (Audio CD)
I was actually disappointed when I heard this CD. I expected this CD to be of the calibre of Poplitical, and Novo Millennium...which are two very good CDs. Unfortunately this is not one CD that I'd recommend you buying it... It has a couple of jazzy songs, which are good, but there are songs that pretty much will remind you of the times you sing on the shower, and ask yourself why weren't you invited to record this CD? Hope Ed Motta can eventually compose songs like the ones he used to....
