A wonderful new offering has been laid at the feet of Jyotish by Dr. David Frawley: his new book "Ayurvedic Astrology." All Jyotishis should know some Ayurveda, and all Vaidyas should know some Jyotish.

With advanced degrees in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda, David Frawley is unusually qualified to show how to "diagnose" possible health problems through the Vedic astrology chart. I remember a tape, from one of the ACVA conferences, in which he very clearly demonstrated how to choose one's doshas from the planets affecting the Ascendant, Moon ascendant and Sun ascendant. Common sense, you may say, but such brilliant common sense! This book will teach you to do this and much more.

Gems are an important aspect of remedial measures in Jyotish and are exceedingly potent. Their use may greatly help or may greatly harm the wearer. Much light is needed in this area. David has a wonderful section on their use and, as one who has successfully recommended gems to clients for over 12 years, I largely agree with his rules for wearing gems.

Mantras for each planet are also given and the relationship between color and doshas is explained. The chakras, the three bodies (physical, astral and causal), and the nakshatras and their relationship with the planetary energies are clearly explained. The volume comes to a grand conclusion with thirty-three example charts of famous people. This book should be near the top of your "must have" list for Vedic Astrology, or Ayurveda, or Natural Medicine.

One note of caution: this tome is geared to those seekers of Truth who are at least marginally competent in Jyotish. It may be confusing for rank beginners.

Frawley's Ayurvedic astrology is the perhaps the best resource available for pratitioners of Jyotish or Ayurveda who are seeking ways to integrate these two Vedic sciences into a coherent system of true multi-dimensional healing. Few texts go into such depth when discussing these two systems, and Frawley also helps lift Ayurveda and Jyotish above the mundane level allowing the reader to glimpse a true vision of Cosmic healing. For any practioner or student of Ayurveda or Jyotish, look no further.

This book assumes that the reader is already somewhat familiar with the topic. It is not a good book for an introduction into the topic.

I have recently been studying some Ayurvedic related courses here and there, from Vedic astrology, doshas, pulse measuring, etc... This is a book that puts most of that together on an easy way. It avoids jumping into the very deep pool of knowledge that this disciplines have and keeps on a practical level which is very appreciated.

Another great book by Dr David Frawley, expert in Ayurveda and Vedic astrology and prodigious author of a pantheon of fascinating subjects. A wealth of detail, well presented and very hard to put down. Skillfully illuminates ancient Eastern wisdom woven into a Western-digestible format.

The book gives some foundational explanations to a complicated science - Jyotish astrology. It's clear that one cannot just pick up this book and start figuring out their 'star charts'. However, having a foundation and an introduction to the whys, wheres and soforths, are helpful. The examples of star charts of famous people was very interesting.
