It's ok...., April 4, 2011
This review is from: Ayurvedic Massage Therapy: Therapeutic Massage Techniques Based on the Ancient Healing Science of Ayurveda (Paperback)
If I knew nothing about Ayurveda, and wanted some general information, this would be a great book...but as a long time massage therapist, who has had some Ayurvedic training, but was seeking more, this was just ok.
I was seeking a book with specific Ayurvedic massage techniques, and protocols...maybe that is too specific for a book? The massage techniques differed only slightly from Swedish techniques, and offered very little and very general information....
for example there is an Ayurvedic technique in which you would make a dough, attach it to the person's eye orbit, and pour a specific oil on the eye...I knew about the technique...but what I was searching for was more like, How do I make the dough? What is the history behind this? How does this work? What do I need to know about a person in order to do this? What kind of oils need to be used? etc. etc. etc...the provided info was too general to make doing anything like this even seem safe...and to be honest isn't really massage...
Which brings me back to...not enough of what I was looking for, but quite a bit of general stuff I already knew about.
If you want general information, great. If you really want to know the history of the technique, anecdotal information about it, how to actually do it...it's not here.
There is quite a bit of reference in the back, to get you to other places...it's just that I was seeking the other information to begin with.
