Review

A Brilliant Exposition of the Basis of Ayurveda: "The English translation of Dravyagunavignyan of Vaidya M Gogte, has impressed me as a brilliant exposition of the basis of Ayurveda termed by Charaka as Yuktivyapasraya chikitsa (rationalistic medicine). ..the basic laws, unravelled and recorded by our ancients aree applicable for all times and by all systems of medicine. This fact is now proved by the reports of repeated confirmation of the veracity of ancient outlooksby modern scientists.I recommend this work as a timely publication of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan...to promote mutual studies of both (classical and modern) traditions, which may be beneficial for the planned advance of the world of science as a whole. --Dr.P.K.Warrier/Chief Physician,Arya Vaidya Sala,Kottakkal/Kerala/India

The Timeless Classic: "The Scientists at Bhavan and Dr.Jaya Gogte have done a commendable job in enlightening the English speaking world with the essentials of this timeless classic in marathi.while the world is reeling under the weight of prohibitively expensive modern medicine and looking for the science of complimentary systems, this book comes like a breath of fresh air". --Prof.Dr.B.M.Hegde,M.D.,FRCP (Lon)/Vice Chancellor/Manipal Academy of Higher Education/India

5.0 out of 5 stars Ayurvedic Pharmacology and Therapeutic Uses of Medicinal Plants [Hardcover], May 29, 2011
This review is from: Ayurvedic Pharmacology and Therapeutic Uses of Medicinal Plants (Hardcover)
This is a must have book on Ayurveda herbology.

Before even looking at the materia medica you are thoroughly informed on the reasoning of Ayurveda herbology. Not a repeat of vata, pitta kapha as most western books on Ayurveda continue to start with.

Being a westerner studying Ayurveda I did not want a dumbed down explanation of herbology. I also wanted to be stimulated into going deeper into dravyagunavignyan. This book gives me that. Wonderful. Not sure I would have had the opportunity of purchasing it at this price though. I bought it in India 10 years ago for $50 US dollars.
Now I know why I never lend it to anyone!
