Initially, I would not recommend this tablet for everyone. People that might panic at a minor glitch, that need a tab with lot of processing power, or that are looking for an iPad-equivalent should look elsewhere.

I purchased the Azpen A701 for the following tasks:
- Reading ebooks and magazines, particularly using the Overdrive, Kindle, and Zinio software.
- Viewing documents 'printed' as PDFs from my Desktop to Dropbox.
- Occasional internet viewing to find needed bits of information.
- Occasional note-taking.
After two weeks use, I'd say it's a good tool for these tasks.

As with any tablet at its price point, the Azpen A701 is NOT an iPad-equivalent, and I didn't expect it to be.
- It's not as responsive as an iPad, suggesting it'd be a poor choice for gaming.
- It consumes a lot of power and warms considerably in proportion to the amount of processing it's required to perform. Video, in particular, has these effects. Streaming music services like Pandora or any other processor-intensive tasks would likely do the same. Such heating might explain "freezing" issues noted in other reviews.

Given my expectations, I only have a couple of things against the A701, for which I give it four stars rather than five:
- It warms up when extensively using the "Graffiti for Android" app, probably because the app draws letters on the screen as you write them.
- A couple of apps have gotten "stuck" when downloading large amounts of information. Powering down and restarting the device remedied the problem and the information had, in fact, been successfully downloaded.

Microcenter just opened up a new retail store closer than the one I normally frequent for emergency parts. Been meaning to pay them a visit during grand opening week but when I received a circular with coupons hawking this android tablet for $20 along with 2 coupons for free 16GB flash drives I relented and paid them a visit. Lines were unbelievably long with many patrons patiently waiting to pay for their $20 android tablet. I went along dragging the wife so she could use the other flash drive coupon and I purchased this $20 tablet along with my own free personal flash drive. All things considered this is a good knock around tablet to have but is no where close to my Nexus 10. Battery life when fully charged lasts only 3 hours tops, boot up times really slow, and the addition of a microSD memory card is a must have otherwise you will NOT install more than 3 apps downloaded from the Google play store. If the tablet functions more than a year I'll have gotten my money out of this $20 investment but all things considered it's not a bad tablet to have for outside use....fits in my field jacket perfectly and once booted up connects effortlessly to all the free Wi-Fi hotspots in my area. For $20+tax you cannot go wrong on this deal. Not too thrilled with the browser but with it's anemic 512KB of internal memory you must be ever vigilant when a task goes awry due to insufficient memory. Good for quickly checking emails, market quotes, and as a TV remote....your mileage may vary!

5/30/2014...Been using this knock-around tablet for a few weeks now and it's held up remarkably well (nothing broken yet). Eyes tend to get tired after lengthy usage but its expected since a 7-inch display is simply no where close to the more eye pleasing 10 inch tablets.

I got this tablet for $20 at a local microcenter store (they often send out coupon-like things in the mail). I've wanted a tablet for a while, something to supplement my 2+ years old phone running android 2.3. it's just like a big smartphone. a little laggy, especially with screen rotation (speaking of which, the portrait orientation is a little squished).

it definitely can't handle much more than an app or two at once, though. if you're looking for a tablet that can do more than web browsing or reading, then you probably shouldn't get this one. I did install skype on it, and it seems to work well.

at least with 4.2, I can run the apps I bought/wanted that I couldn't use on 2.3!

since I got it for $20, though, I'm not really going to complain about much. it is a little slow, and the way the screen gets distorted in portrait mode is kind of undesirable, but it's not bad for the price I paid. not sure if I'd pay $60 for it, though.

A good tablet for the money especially for a child. Paid $38 at Micro Center and although disappointed with a few things like not being able to download music from the computer (if you have a CD and want to sync), but still can't really complain because of the price. It plays games, Youtube, Netflix, and lets you get online to look things up. You can download quite a bit and if you add a memory chip you can do a bit more. It is perfect for a child's first gadget. If you are looking to surf the web and interact on websites you will need something else that is a little bigger perhaps and with more power. This tablet works best if you download apps and just use them instead of surfing the web. If you want to surf the web and interact with a page much, you have to download a browser that supports Flash player and then you can interact a little on educational websites for example. Still, for the money it does a heck of a lot! Tons of free e books from the library and audio books from Librivox are all available to read and listen to on this device. Overall, we are happy we purchased.
