4.0 out of 5 stars Delta Aztec red brake pads, a great wet weather choice, July 5, 2011

I've been using the Delta Aztec v-brake alloy holder with replaceable pads for many years but only recently tried the red pads instead of the black ones. The red pads are a different composition that provides better stopping when the rims and pads are exposed to water (rainy season). The trade-off is faster wear of the pad. I'll use the black pads for most of the year and pick up another red pair for the spring months when getting caught in the rain or riding after a recent storm is inevitable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, January 4, 2012

I originally purchased the the black pads that are sold with the aluminum mounts (different sku, same pads). These are sold a la cart without the metal housing itself.

Like another reviewer mentioned, there are red and black pads, the black ones being a stiffer material, the red ones a softer material. The black ones hold up longer but give slightly less stopping power, the red ones wear out quicker but give increased stopping power. Both are excellent products.

About me: I'm a university student and cannot afford 600 bucks/yr parking, so I tie my bike up in the truck and park in a local neighborhood and ride in about a mile up and down a few good hills. This offers me ample opportunities for riding in unexpected weather, and I have used these pads in some pretty bad weather. I first had the black pads all around which gave me *just enough* stopping power in the rain whilst having to brake on the downhill. I lost one of my front pads, so I decided I'd try the reds for a change and I've noticed a pretty big difference in my stopping power. As of now I have blacks on the rear and reds on the front, and I feel it's a pretty nice combination. I like having that extra power in the front for when the weather is bad. The blacks alone are excellent pads, but you may consider having a spare set of reds around if you think you may be riding in the rain.

Excellent product! Assuming they remain as affordable as they are now, I'll be buying again.
