5.0 out of 5 stars A lesser-known classic in children's literature. June 4, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This book was originally published in the first part of the 20th century. It is a classic in the genre known as the "rip-roaring boy's adventure novel." There are adventurers seeking a lost valley in Mexico where Aztec treasure is stored. There are death-defying feats and thrilling rescues. It's not great literature, but if you read it around 12 or 14 years old, it will stick with you all your life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still with me after 45 years February 12, 2000
Format:Hardcover
"A reader" from Seoul Korea is certainly correct. I read Janvier's Aztec Treasure House in my early 'teens (40 years ago)and have forgotten neither the author nor the book in all that time. Janvier wrote another adventure book about the Sargasso Sea which I did not find as memorable. I read Burrough's Land that Time Forgot at about the same time and found Janvier's superior. Remington's illustrations also stand out.

The Aztec Treasure House by Thomas A. Janvier was unclear and quite boring with brief moments of excitement. It dragged on and on. I was more interested in ending the book rather than finding out what happens in the end. At least it was a freebie.
