Extraordinary! Superb! Latin Fusion at its Best!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Azteca (Audio CD)
As a fan of latin music, I rate this as one of the top albums ever produced. By the way, I bought this album, and Pyramid of the Moon back in the 70's, which I still own. So it's time the second album is reproduced on CD. It will sell! I would also like to see all the albums by El Chicano and Malo put on CD. I have copies of those albums, but hate to wear them out. Have any influence in the recording industry? These would sell like hot cakes! or even tamales!

AZTECA reflection of latin pride,
By "latinoguy" (Hacienda Heights, CA.) - See all my reviews

Those were the days. The Latino EXPLOSION in the music world. AZTECA, MALO, SANTANA, EL CHICANO, TIERRA, and SAPO. These groups gave us a sense of pride beyond description. However, they were never given the recognition or airplay they deserved. AZTECA produced a diverse sound which covered a wide-range of interest, from funk-to-soul and of course latin rythm. I was fortunate to see AZTECA (opened for Stevie Wonder) in '72 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. The show was awesome. Tough for Stevie to match. Many of those songs could be hits today. Their follow-up album proved AZTECA was not a fluke. The consistency, range, and talent thrived. Could it happen again? Maybe, maybe not. Thank GOD we have the sounds preserved for all RAZA young and old to reflect on what PRIDE sounds like.

Second Best by Azteca,

I have this CD in my collection and I enjoy it very much as I do all the latin rock albums (CD's) on my shelf. Unfortuantely, the music recording industry only sees fit to produce cd's that will generate a large profit. It is because of this that I do not believe I will ever see Azteca's second album (and their very best ever made) on CD realized. I had the original album "Pyramid of the Moon" back in the 70's and unfortunately wore it out. I would be thrilled to see it on CD because I consider it to be a "must have" for anyone interested in the roots of latin rock.

with out a doubt this was the best band I have ever heard, because nothing today can touch this great musicianship. Remember this album was from 1972.A very wonderful blend of Latin Soul and Latin Rock like Malo,Sapo,Chango, but a lot more sophisticated. This band needs recognition!! NOW!! Pyramid of the moon - is their second album and hard to get,but here in San Jose, anything is possible my friends. You should try time warp music-sales@timewarpmusic.com a specialist in very, very hard to get titles. Also the best compilation ever will come out in limited quantaties-"Back to the Barrio"-"rare and hard to find classics on cd" you should contact -chorizo records- www.chorizomusic2003@yahoo.com GOOD LUCK!!

please, please, i beseech you, issue azteca's 2nd album "pyramid of the moon". i was probably the only white american who bought their albums back in the early 70's and have been a raving fan ever since. it's time azteca's second album be released. by the way, the group malo which is santana's brother did several albums back in the 70's and they need to be brought out on cd as well.

Outstanding cd release from this great group from the bay area. This was the first album from Azteca inicially released on Columbia records. One could only wish the second album be re-issued on cd(it was even better than this one) Long live Azteca! !Que viva!

yes Azteca was the first band to come out with an alblum that was such a blend of different styles of music. I was listening to BEP and was reminded of Azteca, and just on a whim decided to look up the title. I really didn't think I would find it,but was so pleased that not only did I find it but that there are so many others who found and love the music. I bought this album at the age of 13 (more than 30yrs ago) and have played it to death. They were way ahead of their time. I know if you give a listen you will be pleased that you bought the CD. It's only a shame that Coke Escovedo is no longer alive to see what he was always wanted for people to listen and love the sound.

Azteca- Where have I been????,
By Seventies Funk "Math Nerd" (West New York, NJ United States) - See all my reviews

I just recently got this album, being a huge fan of the early Santana albums (Santana I through Caravanserai), I recently ordered this CD and was blown away. This album I would say is a mix between the percussion and horn bombast of Santana III and the jazz/fusion explorations of Caravanserai. Some great playing by all musicians involved, I am very impressed with this album. So my question is, where is the recognition for this band??? Why have I just heard about them now?? Its a shame that the music business causes bands like this to become relatively unknown. Now I am looking forward to hearing their second album, but I guess I will have to get it in vinyl for now!
