This review is from: Azucar! the Celia Cruz Biography (Hardcover)
Well written with a lot of information previously unknown for many. It has been translated in Spanish. Traces the life of this great singer, doubtless the greatest of the tropical music, from her humble beginnings in Cuba to her start in the music bussiness in radio, to her debut with the Sonora Matancera, the longest-living musical group and then to her career as a solo artist in the different radio stations like Radio Progreso, CMQ; cabarets like Tropicana, Sans Souci, Montmartre; in television, her relationship with her husband Pedro Knight, formerly a trumpet player with the Sonora Matancera, her move to the exile with this group, first to Mexico and then New York.In the Big Apple she became the Queen of Salsa, with greats like Tito Puente, Johnny Pacheco, Fania-Alll Stars. The author delves into all these facets of her life with a lot of information, pictures, first-hand knowledge of Celia and her friends and career, her triumphs all over the world, the love of her fans and traces her illness and finally her death. it's the definite biography of the Queen of Joy. Highly recommended not only for music lovers but also to anyone who likes to read excellent books because is a valuable document that must be treasured and kept for future generations that should be acquainted with this sensational singer and human being that was adored not only by her fans but also by her peers.
