5.0 out of 5 stars BACKYARD BAR-B-Q JAZZ AT IT'S BEST WITH THE ONE THAT STARTED IT ALL!!!
97% was recorded at the legendary Van Gelder Recording Studios between 1977 to 1995, so there's no need to tell you how great the sound is (if you want more proof ask some die-hard jazz fans or jazz collectors). EVERY CUT is a greasy experience to your ears and hips! Includes some of the Hammond B-3 Masters like: Richard 'Groove' Holmes, Jack McDuff, and Charles...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Enough Organ
There is some fairly smokin' B3 on this album, but only on about 20% of it, the remainder being sax and guitar solos. So, if you wanted a more well-rounded instrumental offering, that probably woudn't bother you, but I personally got this album for just the organ, and found myself fastforwarding 2/3 of the way or more through every song till I got to the Hammond players...

Having only heard it once, I'm not prepared to comment on individual tracks - I just wanted to comment on the actual amount of said B3.

97% was recorded at the legendary Van Gelder Recording Studios between 1977 to 1995, so there's no need to tell you how great the sound is (if you want more proof ask some die-hard jazz fans or jazz collectors). EVERY CUT is a greasy experience to your ears and hips! Includes some of the Hammond B-3 Masters like: Richard 'Groove' Holmes, Jack McDuff, and Charles Earland...Wait!!!, There's more! Guest Hammond B-3 Organists are:

Big John Patton, Mickey Tucker, and John logan. How about this for Frontmen: guitarist; Jimmy Ponder, saxophonist; Willis Jackson, and saxophonist; Houston Person!!! Want more???...., o.k., how about these Sidemen (Sidekicks): Idris Muhammad, Grady Tate, and others.

Be forwarned the track "Walking The Dog" by Jack McDuff appears on another Compact Disc entitled: "Jazz That Swings II", but it works equally as well on this project too!, so you'll live through this repeated performance!. Where this disc opens with an Excerpt of "Shipping Out" by Houston Person that clocks in at 2:55 (Two Minutes and Fifty-Five Seconds) WHY???, when there is a 11:00+ (Eleven Minutes, Plus) version on his 'Original' album!!! Maybe (Just maybe) because this track starts with a saxophone solo for about 4:00 (Four Minutes), but the long version could have been the last track, so there is no excuse putting this short (Excerpt) version found on this release.

Now understand this...THIS IS INDEED AN OVERALL HAMMOND B-3 ORGAN PROJECT!!! This is the music you'd hear at somebody's Bar-B-Q Party, as in Beef, Chicken, Pork And Hot Dogs, along with Beer and Hard Liquor, Oh! and let's not forget the Dominoes and Card Games...Kickin' the dog, and chasin' the kids! For an Extra Dose of Greasy Delights you might want to add the companion Compact Disc that was released 2 (Two) years later in 1999 entitled "Party Jazz"...Then all you'll need to do is have a Backyard Bar-B-Q Party :)
