Eargasmic and electric,

Long before DVD, BB King has put on performances like this around the world! If you have never seen him in concert, this is your chance. This concert is eargasmic and full of electricity. DVD format allows you to experience this legend at his best in the privacy of your own home. Invite friends; put it on the BIG screen TV! But don't miss out on this performance. This is one you will enjoy over and over again.

BB in Africa is an outstanding concert! Although it was recorded in the 70's, the sound quality is great. Most true Blues fans grew up listening to less than perfect Mono recordings of the blues. Well, here is great sound and video of one of the greatest! I have seen BB twice in my life and will surely go again if the chance arises. But now, I can pop in the DVD and see him whenever I want. The stage is packed with band members. Backed by a full horn and rhythm section, BB and Lucille play their unmistakable style blues. This is a must for Blues fans. Don't miss this classic performance on DVD. Crank up the volume and get ready to close your eyes, sway your head and tap your foot.

I WAS NOT A BIG BB. KING FAN UNTIL THIS DVD VIDEO. THE COMBINATION OF GOOD VIDEO AND CLEAN SOUND MAKE IT WORTH YOUR MONEY. IF YOU HAVE DOLBY DIGITAL YOUR EARS ARE SITTIN IN THE CAT BIRDS SEAT. HE CAN SING AND PLAY THAT GUITAR. MY FAVORITE IS "THE THRILL IS GONE." TURN IT UP AND ENJ0Y. WELL WORTH YOUR MONEY.

The Greatest BB,
By Diane Dormant (Bloomington, IN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: King, B.B. / Live in Africa (DVD)
I'm a BB fan and I'd heard many of these tracks on studio-recorded CDs, but I wasn't prepared for the exhilaration of this live concert in Kinshasa, capital of the Congo in 1974.It was a high time in the Congo! George Foreman and Muhammad Ali's Rumble in the Jungle was about to happen. Ali had become a hero to blacks around the world when he refused to be drafted to fight in Vietnam--"Why should I fight the Vietcong! They never called me a nigger." The Congolese were euphoric about Ali. Never had a black man stood up in this way to colonial whites or to the most powerful country in the world. Throughout the Congo, people chanted "Ali, boma ye! Ali, boma ye!" "Ali, kill him. Ali, kill him." (Poor George Foreman never fully understood the antipathy he met in Africa.) It was in this atmosphere that James Brown and BB King came to perform. (Near the end, look out for a young Ali in the audience.) This DVD is as good as it gets! Thanks BB.

This is by far the best concert footage and performance I've seen from B B. The Audio has been remastered by pure magicians, when he sings you hear every word plain and clear, even as he steps back and away from the mic or when he shakes his head side to side, there's no wavering or fading in his vocals. B B's style incorporates both his guitar and voice to complete his sound. This is a high quality sounding DVD with very good Video and an over the top performance, it's very hard to believe this was recorded back in 1974!! Wow! Shout Factory did an outstanding job restoring this historic performer and performance. I watched it twice, back to back the first time I watched it. This is a no-brainer. This is now in the top 10 best DVD's I own. I would hope this will be released on Blu-ray some day.I wish Amazon had a 3 criteria rating that would make for a quicker, more accurate and fair rating of Cd's, DVD's and Blu-ray's. 1. Performance 2. Quality of Audio 3. Quality of Video (for DVD's and Blu-ray's) 1.***** 2.***** 3.***** Artists that wish to have there performances recorded and recognized should be held to a standard. Poor Audio or Video, no matter how good the performance, is still a bad product. Those who would still purchase sub-standard Audio or Video quality recordings and rank that product highly just because of performance are not doing the industry or the band justice. Demand better and we will get it, settle for less and that's what you'll get.

Yes it has the film-transfer look to it. But, this is glimpse into BB half way into his career. He plays tonight in my area. I never miss him!If you blink, you'll miss Mohammed Ali. Out of all his DVD to date, this is one of my favorites (along with the BET JAZZ) Get it!

Though not a die hard fan of B.B. King, I picked up this DVD on a whim and couldn't be happier. This is on par with his Live in Japan CD as far as chops and overall performance. It's only 48 minutes in length, but those 48 minutes are just dynamite. Believe me, you won't feel cheated. The camerawork is the other star of the film, and Leon Gast proves that his Oscar for "When We Were Kings" wasn't a fluke.

I opened the DVD and played it 4 complete times...in the first sitting. Outstanding! Every tune, every move. The band was one of the best I have ever heard - some of the bandplayers had a history with BB that ranged anywhere from 5 to 25 years. I am not a really big "blues" fan...however...BB changes all of that. What a larger than life performer he is. I have never seen him live - but if he ever makes it to my hometown again...THIS IS A MUST BUY!

Nothing short of fantastic... BB King at his peak... virtuosity, showmanship... at times stunning. And the sound recording is good too, especially considering the large size of the arena and the fact that this event occurred so long ago. The filming is perfect in that it is all concert, beginning to end... no artsy fartsy camera angles, no interspliced interviews or other distractions to mar the flow of the show.

This is a must have for any blues lover, to see B.B. in his younger years when he still played his own licks is unbelieveable.
