B.B. King Still In His Prime.,

This review is from: B.B. King: Live at Montreux 1993 (DVD)
This DVD is very similar to the SRO session which came out about three years ago and it was filmed about the time of this set, the early 1990s, when BB was still touring a lot and was still at the top of his game. Like all of the Montreux Series the sound, camera work and production are excellent.
Another interesting thing about this performance is that BB stands up throughout it and it really chronicles the last years of this Blues great's live shows (This is also when I saw him last in Australia). Just as a matter of interest, the set and band are very similar to the "BB Live" set that came out just about two years ago, filmed at BB's Blues Club in Memphis (and the one in Nashville). This concert was filmed in 1993 and BB is still in top form. The set is an extensive catalogue of his hits and live numbers. The band includes many members that have played with BB for many, many years. Foremost is the great James Toney an extraordinary organ player and keyboardist who just died in 2007. He was with BB since his famous PBS Jazz Casual session in 1968. Also prominent is the excellent bass player Michael Doster. His nephew and sax player Walter King is the Musical Director and he also is a great musician. This band is impeccable! The set list is very comprehensive. It includes a great band "warm up" with the "Two I Shoot Blues" which showcases the great musicianship of BB's band. Highlights of the set list include Louis Jordan's "Caldonia", Ray Charles' "Let The Good Times Roll", the old standard and favourite "Why I Sing The Blues", a newer offering "Blues Man" and of course the seminal "The Thrill Is Gone", always a favourite and always a bit different. This DVD is 99 minutes long and , while it doesn't say it was filmed in HD on the package, on the end credits it does say that, like the Albert Collin's show, it is in fact in HD, the picture is incredibly clear and sharp. And sound is excellent. I would rank the SRO session and this as BB's two best DVD releases. A must have purchase for classic Blues Lovers.

This video is great!!!! I was amazed at the video and audio quality as it was filmed in 1993. They must have used amazing gear because this looks and sounds as good as any of the newly recorded stuff. I watched this on a high quality HD projection system in an acousitcally set up room and a $3500 pair of speakers . . . .and it was AWESOME!!! This was when BB was in better health and had a bit more energy . . . I have seen him live several times and I will say he is always a treat. It has been a while since I have seen BB in a small club (1989???) and I forgot how great his facial expressions were. I am so glad somebody captured this era of BBs career so masterfully - I am certain it will be enjoyed by new generations as well as us "old guys"!!!

This is a great video of B.B. King doing what he does best. About Blu-Ray....I mistakely thought a standard CD player could play a Blu-Ray. That was my fault. I ended up watching it on my computer. This will force me to buy a Blu-Ray player. It's ok. I was going to anyway. The performance by BB is great.

Audio/video is well done like most of the Eagle Rock "Montreaux" Dvds. I debated about getting the Blu-Ray version but was not disappointed with this choice. B.B. is in fine form with a mighty band. I have been to many of B.B.'s concerts over the years and prefer this DVD to the actual performances only because this audience remains quiet. Most of B.B.'s crowds in the US feel they have to talk to him while he is performing. This disc will get alot of play.

...B. B. King is back in town. This 99 minute DVD (480 P) from 1993 has a great widescreen transfer, as well as, stereo, Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1 soundtracks. I preferred the Dolby 5.1 soundtrack, which has the best low bass. There are no extra features, but there is a nice booklet, with a few pictures and a bit of B. B. King history.
B. B. King and the band are tight and bring down the house. B. B. is generous with the band and we hear great solos from the bass player, horns, etc. B. B. is in top form and his guitar wails the blues. I really enjoyed the set list and a few stand out songs for me are All Over Again, Caldonia and The Thrill Is Gone. What could have been a low point when his guitar string broke during Chains Of Love, was nothing less than great - B. B. belted out the vocals as he fixed his string, and we hear his superb backing band, with a nice horn solo. Then B. B. brings it home with his own solo with Lucille. B. B. is still The King Of The Blues. This DVD is highly recommended. I just watched the re-issue of the 2009 Soundstage show in Chicago and I liked this 1993 DVD much better. Hope this helps, j

I love B. B. and the blues. This is not the best concert footage of B. B. available, but it is good.

Amazing audio and video quality for experiencing the king of the blues. I'd say this was BB at his prime but then any time he performs it seems like his prime.

Everything about this disc is great--the songs B.B. King plays, his virtuosity on the guitar, his personality. The sound and picture on the blu ray are crisp and clear, and had me wondering how they filmed in HD back in 1993.
This disc is well worth buying, and my wife and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

The Best BB King live DVD ever!,

This review is from: B.B. King: Live at Montreux 1993 (DVD)
Please don't have any doubts in getting BB King live in Montreux. I have all the BB king's DVD concerts. This is the best!!! I wouldn't say it captures his prime, because he still is without a doubt the greatest guitar player ever but the whole scenario in Montreux it makes it really special. The sound and image is amazing!
