More About the Author

Roger Priddy is the creator of over two hundred best selling books for young children including Wipe Clean ABC, First 100 Words, and Fuzzy Bee.

When he was at school he couldn't decide between being a patisserie chef or going to art college. On the advice of his father he chose art college and trained as an illustrator before becoming a designer at Usborne Publishing.

Roger's love for children's early learning has led him to create some of the most successful children's non-fiction books, first at Dorling Kindersley (My First Word Book, Incredible Cross Sections and My First Cook Book) before he set up Priddy Books with St. Martins Press in New York where several of his books have sold over a million copies each including My Big Animal Book and Happy Baby Words.

In total he has sold over 65 million books worldwide and his books have been translated into over 30 languages.

He says "It is always rewarding to see a child enjoying and learning something from one of our books, especially the babies when you think it could be the first book they have ever seen.

I am very lucky to have a career where you get to think up fun ways to teach a kid how to write their letters and learn their first words whilst finding out about Dinosaurs at the same time!"

Roger lives in London and has three children, who have given him most of his best ideas for his books.

This is one of our favorite board books with textures (we have 15 or more of that genre). It has a page for each letter of the alphabet (these include the inside front and back covers, so no wasted pages). Each 2-page spread has one item with a texture, sometimes on the left page, sometimes on the right but always something to touch. Some textures are better than others, but the best feature for me is that the text has decent rhymes for the most part and is not very annoying to the adult to read (and we read it a lot!). Sometimes my 16 month old wants to turn the pages quickly so we may just read the larger text on each page -- "J is for juice" -- and not the second line -- "how thirsty are you?" as we speed through. Also, since there are more pages than the average board book (most have about 5 2-page spreads, this has 13 of them), it takes a little longer to read, which is nice if you can only take a few books on a trip or when you are out.
The touch/feel areas are -- front cover: bear has tufty ear fur (ours got pretty matted); A/B pages: bear's nose is padded suede; C/D: soft furry duckling, one of the best; E/F: flower has sparkly center, can feel texture of glitter; G/H: goldfish has some sparkly scales, not really much texture to feel for this one; I/J: ink on girl's hands is slightly raised, really hard to see how this is much of a texture; K/L: yarn lined up in "ball;" M/N: some of the text on the "mouth" page is gold and slightly raised, I didn't even notice this page had a texture until my 5 year old pointed it out; O/P: owl has flocked areas around the eyes for "feathers;" Q/R: sueded microfiber patch for quiet dog's ear; S/T: strawberry has raised seeds; U/V: raindrops are shimmery but not much of a texture; W/X: glittery areas on the "wet" bubbles are raised so you can feel them; Y/Z: Y is for you -- mirror for baby to look at herself!

This is the first book my baby was able to turn the pages on. He LOVES this book, still, at a year old... but he was really taken with it from 6-11 months of age. He always had to taste each page. It is only now showing wear, and it was read many times a day for a year. I think it is very well constructed, better than any other brand. I initially thought it very expensive, but it has been worth every penny. It is my favorite of all the priddy books... such great rhymes!

This is my toddler's favorite book. She loves to touch and feel each of the pages and I love that she is learning to recognize new words and sounds.

Everytime you pick it up, you will rub those fuzzy ears too and smile.

You will love that it introduces some body parts using M for mouth and N for nose. Your child will love all the animals and textures and colors in the photographs. Y has a wonderful surprise - you or your mirror image anyway.

This has become our favorite alphabet book.

I bought this book for the many touch and feel pages, but also for its sturdiness. It is for my special needs son who will tear "flap books" and sometimes others that aren't well made. This has stood up to his "reading" and he loves to go through it and feel all the different textures.

I started reading to my baby, at a very early age, 1 1/2 weeks old. I bought this book when he was six months old and it held his attention with the large, colorful pictures. He is now a year old and this book still entertains him. He truly loves the cat, he feels the yarn and smiles. He also loves the colorful flower and the mirror when he sees himself. Although, "Green Eggs and Ham" is still his favorite, he still gives me a smile when I get the book and begin to read.

I looked all over for a book that would interest my nine month-old and provide an easy transition into the alphabet. Each page has a big beautiful picture and something with texture to interest the hands-on baby but what sets this book apart is that the main letter is a different color than the rest of the word. Now I can ask my daughter to point to 'O' or 'A' and she is able to recognize the shape.

My son is only 10 months old and this is by far his favorite book. At first I would read it to him, but now he really enjoys wanting to read it himself. The large pictures (especially of the babies) captivate him! He has animated conversations with the babies in the pages and the fact that he can actually touch and feel some of the things is great!

I would recommend this book to anyone!

This was my sons first book he was ever interested in. At 7 months he was turning the pages himself and checking out every picture. Now he knows what's coming before he's even opened the page and if you read a line aloud he looks for the book. Needless to say we are big fans. Hopefully this book has started a love of reading that my son will carry with him for the reast of his life.
