More About the Author

Johnny Hart (1931-2007) was born and raised in Endicott, New York. Johnny created the comic strips, "B.C." and the "Wizard of Id". Launched in 1958, B.C. was written and drawn by Johnny. With the release of the Wizard of Id in 1964, drawn by cartoonist Brant Parker, Hart became one of only four cartoonists to have two comic strips appearing in over 1000 papers each. Johnny won numerous awards for his work, including the National Cartoonist Society's highest honor, the Reuben award, for B.C. in 1968 and the Wizard of Id in 1984.

5.0 out of 5 stars The genius of using the palette of cave dwellers to lampoon modern life, October 25, 2008
B. C. is a comic strip that expresses a wry, satirical sense of humor. Targeted at the modern world, the palette of expression is that of the culture of the caveman and cave woman. The toughest human is a female and many modern conveniences are expressed in primitive form as in the cartoon series "The Flintstones." My favorite in the book is when the bird is perched on the tortoise shell and the dialog is:

Bird: "Boy, you're a tough one to buy for"
Tortoise: "How do you figure that?"
Bird: "No stores"

Genius comes in many forms and Johnny Hart used one of the most original when he lampooned modern life by melding it with the life of "simple" cave dwellers.
