5.0 out of 5 stars Great B-sides, April 27, 2000
This review is from: B-Sides Lousy With Love (Audio CD)
Del Amitri is an amazing group. Though many people can only identify Del Amitri with their pop hit "Roll to Me," their fans know there is so much more to this group. What the true Del fans know is how amazing the music and the vocals are. However, the real secret to Del Amitri is the lyrics. Del Amitri sing songs that tell all true stories. It is amazing to me how great some of the songs are on this collection of "B" sides. Just listen to "Long Way Down" "Long Journey HOme" or "Last Love Song." But to me, the true gem on this album is "In the Meantime." That song alone is worth the price for this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars No better location, March 26, 1999

If you like the Dels, you'll like this disc. That goes without saying. There are enough slow ballards and faster tunes to keep anybody who even kinda' likes Del Amitri interested. "Long Way Down," "Scared to Live," and "Whiskey Remorse" are vintage Justin and Ian. Check it out. You won't be sorry. That is, unless you DON'T buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars These B-Sides are better than any other bands A-sides, May 1, 2002

I adore Del Amitri. Every Cd is spectacular, and this is no exception. These guy blow you away with Justin's amazing voice and his creative lyrics and music. These songs are good enough to be A-sides. "Long Journey Home", "Long Way Down", and "Whiskey Remorse" are 3 of the most amazing songs I have heard in my life. ("There is a guy I used to know, he once had everything that any man could hold, but now he sits here drinking, with a tale that always goes, there is a girl I used to know")-from "Whiskey Remorse". Del just keeps pumping out amazing music for people who don't follow the crowd and like somber, mellow rock. Everything about this Cd is amazing, but will someone please tell me why he wrote "Paper Thin" and who he's refering too?

These were B sides, you say? Only just. Good job issuing these songs as an album. Can't tell you how much I go around at work and elsewhere humming or singing some of these things. "The Return of Maggie Brown," "In the Frame," "Long Journey Home," "Sleep Instead of Teardrops," "In the Meantime," "The Last Love Song," "The Verb To Do," "Long Way Down": "lousy with love" is right, ha ha. Painful lyrics with rare, bare gleams of hope or redemption, but oh how good the music, how smart the writing. Never mind a couple of these can sometimes get the waterworks going-good is good. Including the dark indignation of "So Many Souls to Change."

4.0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD...BUT NOT GREAT!!!, July 19, 1999
This review is from: B-Sides Lousy With Love (Audio CD)
This collection could have been so much better. That is if you are aware of all the b-sides out their. Clearly the best song on the CD is "So Many Souls To Change." And there are some other fine selections included like "Scared To Live" and "Whiskey Remorse." But this CD failed to recognize more of the awesome singles from the 1989-93 era. This is where their strongest work really shines. This is mostly b-sides from the Waking Hours and Change Everthing albums. Oh well, I guess the rest of us will have to invest in recordable CD players to get the best of the b-sides....

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Del Amitri Fans, November 13, 1999
This review is from: B-Sides Lousy With Love (Audio CD)
I've liked Del Amitri since around their 1992 album, "Change Everything". Since that time, pretty everything they've done I've liked. So I guess saying that I liked this album isn't really much of a statement. However, I believe that this collection of B-Sides is just a great example of how this band isn't just the band that did that pop hit, "Roll To Me". Del Amitri is just another band that is great but is left basically undiscovered in America. It is a shame because they make good stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest songs..., December 17, 2009

...you never heard. Seriously. "In The Frame" alone is worth the price of admission, never mind "In The Meantime." If you're a fan of literate, melodic pop - I think this is what Lennon and McCartney - well, one or the other of them, anyway - might have sounded like, written about, if they'd grown up in the sixties/seventies - you ought to buy this...
