Genuine style and ruggedness like we used to expect as standard from L.L. Bean and Timberland,
By John P. Thiel "John T." (Astoria, Queens, New York City) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME) I laude the previous reviewer's honesty in saying they're great for wearing without underwear in the hot weather, because they really, really are. Jeans / denim and most cotton cloth can get hot, and that can be real uncomfortable particularly for a man's 'bait and tackle;' whereas this cloth breathes exceptionally well. They're particularly great for after doing endurance sports and taking a shower--when you're body is still all reved up--as a loose, comfortable cool-down clothing that you're fine wearing the rest of the day. The pockets and loops are also very handy, not only for working on a car, bike, or doing construction, but also plenty big enough to carry your cell phone (even my Treo), keys, and wallet comfortably without being like those huge, ugly military-style thigh pockets. I expect Carhartt might someday start marketing itself just like other great, functional brands that went hip-hop style or suburb/country sheik, and if they do it will be a real loss. But for now at least we can enjoy another in that long series of brands that became famous for function before it was popularized as a suburban teenager fashion and then ruined.

TOUGH AND LONG WEARING,
By
This review is from: B25BRN Washed Cotton Duck Work Short (Apparel)
Without a doubt the very best work shorts I have ever owned. I've tried Dickies ( they were too stiff and too tight, even though I bought a size larger than I normally wear ) and Columbia ( they were WAY too expensive .)These shorts are very heavy, but not at all stiff. They wear well and hold up. After being washed several times they will take on a slightly softer color and feel. I buy these literally by the dozen, and wear them everyday. I live in a subtropical climate and even wear these in the winter. They are the perfect work short. Plenty of room, large pockets. A hammer loop, which I never use, but is there if you need one. Not too long, and certainly not too short. These are THE shorts to own.

Tough Work Shorts!,
By M. Ross "Bacchuskitty" (Orange, CA USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

I am a contractor and I use these shorts for work, and boy, these are tough shorts. I also wear Riggs Ranger shorts, which I find more stylish, but for the toughest jobs when I need the most durable material, I go to these. These shorts, along with other Carhartt workwear, remind me of how I always used to think of Levi's jeans: Durable. Rugged. Tough as nails. The fabric that make up these shorts is 12 oz. ringspun cotton duck. This, my friends, is heavy material. It wears like chain mail and looks good over time. After years of wearing them, they have finally started to get ever so slightly frayed at the hem, just enough to make them look comfortable. And comfortable they are! Despite the heavy and rugged material, the cut of these shorts is generous, allowing room to move and stretch, and cool enough to wear on the hottest days. Though the crotch isn't gusseted, there's plenty enough room down there to keep the boys happy, even when the job calls for constant kneeling and climbing. You can wear these on the job all day and be happy... and that counts for a whole lot. Mine haven't shrunk and the fit has been spot-on and true to size. Pockets are useful and seem designed by someone who's actually used them to put tools into. They are right-sized, just the right depth, and durable. There are two utility pockets on the right, and one on the left along with a hammer loop that actually works. I really don't like skinny, faux hammer loops that won't take a framing hammer Styling isn't these shorts' forte, but I rather like that. These shorts are meant for serious work, and they look it. The proof is in the wearing, though, and not the looking - and these shorts stand up to the toughest use. I've had mine for years - thousands of hours on the job - and though the oldest ones are stained, frayed, faded, and scuffed, they haven't failed in any way. Not even so much as a sprung belt loop. It's reassuring to me that Carhartt has kept up their tradition of tough, genuine workwear and hasn't appeared to lower their quality. A quick word about value... It seems that the fact that these haven't tried to keep up with style trends accrues to the buyer's benefit: For as long-lasting and durable as these are, they are a steal at the price current as of this writing. Don't get me wrong, they aren't ugly shorts - indeed, I think they are ruggedly handsome - but they are clearly work shorts and they'll look the part if you use them accordingly. I don't know why they are so inexpensive relative to other offerings, but these would be a solid purchase at far more than they are going for. Big value here for top notch work shorts. If you need comfortable, tough work shorts that will work as long and as hard as you do, these will not disappoint. Great shorts!

About the Brown Color,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Carhartt Men's Washed Duck Work Short (Apparel)
I ordered the "Brown" color (not the "Carhartt Brown" or "Dark Brown") and I wasn't sure what I'd receive because the color swatch for Brown on the product page looks more like a moss green. The Brown I received can be described as a rust color, a shade of orange-brown. It's nice, just wanted to share the info on what the color actually looks like. The pants are the sturdiest I've ever owned, my wife was laughing because it kept its body shape when I took it off and placed it on the ground.

Seemed to fit just right and be well constructed. However after the initial wash following the manufacturer's care instructions, they shrank width and lengthwise. Had to pass them on to someone smaller than myself.

I bought five of these Carhartt 12 oz. duck work shorts this summer. I wear shorts all year long (long pants maybe once a year if at all) and I can assure you that these shorts look good at work or play. Carhartt gives meaning to the word tough.

These shorts are the best for the summer for my son who is an electrician. They hold up the best compared to the other styles of Carhartt shorts.

Great product; very durable; fits well per my husband and very comfortable. Washes and dries well although it looks better if you don't over dry them. Color holds well but hard to distinguish online as to what you are really getting - is it brown, khaki or green? This is a replacement for Docker's shorts which tend to wear out quickly in the pockets so nice alteranative.
