5.0 out of 5 stars tomatoes came out great
just used the "back to basics 220 strainer" and the results were wonderful
the machine is well built, and the instructions were made designed the way you could follow them easily. most products i buy, the instructions do not have empathy for the user who must assemble and use the product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful tool but will it be durable?
My first Back to Basics Food Strainer arrived damaged. The product box was sorely lacking in padding material and the metal handle had shattered the white plastic squirt guard. This was an issue with the product packaging and not Amazon's packaging. Amazon immediately sent a replacement and the replacement was in perfect shape (despite the lousy packaging material...

it worked great on the tomatoes. the seeds, peels and core came out the "discard end" and the pure "pulp juice" came out the front. i processed 200 tomatoes without a problem. bang for the buck, you can't beat the production this machine will give you the tomato season

This model was recommended by a family member who has had theirs for years. It is a solid machine that will definitely last. Processing food is extremely quick--just as an example, a gallon of cooked apples can be turned into applesauce in less than five minutes.

One thing to consider is where you will store this machine. Because of the awkward size and shape, the only option is to clean it and put it back in its box, which probably takes up a cubic foot of space.

We have used this product for both canning tomatoes and applesauce and are extremely pleased with how quickly we get results. No more peeling mess. My 8 yr. old grandson loves to turn the crank. We all love the finished products, as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars B to B Food Strainer, January 27, 2009
This review is from: B2B Food Strainer & Sauce Maker (Kitchen)
After using a Foley mill and a sieve to strain raspberries last summer, I was thrilled to get the B to B Food Strainer for Christmas. We thawed some raspberries frozen last summer. We used the optional berry screen.

Three quarts of berries in about 5 minutes got us the 4.5 cups of juice needed to make jelly!
The unit seems well made, except for the plastic cup on the waste output. It probably won't last long.
We were particularly impressed that the instruction booklet includes a spare parts list for ordering replacement parts.

I've uploaded a short video to show how easy it is to assemble and use the B2B food strainer and sauce maker. The machine does an excellent job on applesauce, tomato sauce, salsa (I love to roast the tomatoes, garlic, onions, and hatch chilis for an incredibly delicious salsa). This is great for anyone interested in making simple delicious food, purees, pumpkin, canning, jelly, etc. I have a foley food mill but find this so much easier to crank and use.

5.0 out of 5 stars home owner, November 10, 2008

I had recently heard about this type of kitchen tool. After a search I found the current version of the back to basic food strainer. I got the tool in just a few days and it went right to work. I had 2100#s of apples to make into applesauce. With very little help, my wife and I made over 200 quarts of applesauce in three days. The food strainer made it a breeze.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, October 22, 2008
This review is from: B2B Food Strainer & Sauce Maker (Kitchen)
The Back to Basics Food Strainer worked great. It worked just as well as my old Victorio Strainer and was even able to fasten to my kitchen counter that my other one couldn't. It's light and easy to clean.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, September 30, 2008
This review is from: B2B Food Strainer & Sauce Maker (Kitchen)
It works great, the only reason I didn't give it five stars is the clamp to hold it should be bigger I had a hard time finding a table to put it on, but after I got it set up everything was fine.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful tool but will it be durable?, September 12, 2009

My first Back to Basics Food Strainer arrived damaged. The product box was sorely lacking in padding material and the metal handle had shattered the white plastic squirt guard. This was an issue with the product packaging and not Amazon's packaging. Amazon immediately sent a replacement and the replacement was in perfect shape (despite the lousy packaging material again).

The strainer works like a charm. My tomato harvest is at 140 pounds now and still going strong, so the strainer has been getting a lot of use. It definitely has been saving me tons of time.

My only concern is with the durability of the product. I don't like all of the plastic parts, particularly the thin and seemingly brittle clear plastic spout, which has to be SNAPPED onto the screen. Let me guess which will be the first part to go! Also, the shaft is not stainless steel and tends to get rust spots if not fastidiously dried.

When I searched for tomato strainers it seemed like they all had the same issues (cheap plastic parts) so this model is really no better or worse than the others. Just wish SOMEONE would build these things for durability.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can I give it 10 stars?, August 26, 2008
This review is from: B2B Food Strainer & Sauce Maker (Kitchen)
This is the greatest product ever!!!! If your into canning salsa or do anything with tomato's this is the product for you it's 4 times faster then boiling tomato's and dumping them in cold water. I like making sauce and salsa now for the first time in 20 years.
