5.0 out of 5 stars Life-long Lover of this Doll!!, March 28, 2007
This review is from: BABY Born with Magic Eyes (Toy)
I'm 22 and I've loved this doll and had 2 through out my childhood. I recently bought one for my little sister and still love her!!

COMES WITH:

One diaper----which we haven't used, and won't. I don't recommend you do either. When I bought the doll, since I had one before, I also bouught a bag of newborn diapers (which fit) and I bought the target brand and it only cost 5 bucks for 40.

A potty---- Cute and easy to clean.

Two Binkys (pacifiers)---- One white one, for looks, and one pink one which makes her close her eyes and go to sleep. That's the magic eye feature which I think its great.

6 Packs of Food---- The food is in little packets and is sticky and kind of messy. It is non-toxic and won't damage any furniture, but hard to find and expensive so I've warned my sister of not feeding her the food every day.

Bottle---- works for baby and has cute face of a bunny on it.

Bowl and Spoon---- very cute and life-like to real baby dishes. There's a line in the bowl where you know where to add the water to when you mix the food.

DVD & Book---- The DVD is only the movie version of the book. It's not a cartoon either, it's a still motion movie, meaning it's like reading the book on screen but with zooming and panning along the pictures. Good enough really for girls who can't read but they certainly won't be jumping up and down to watch it again. It should have been a cartoon. The book and the DVD are the exact same wording and everything.

Passport---- The baby comes with a little passport for adding her name and your girl's information and adding her passport stamps which are included if you happen to buy the additionnal playsets of New York, Austrailia and Hawaii.

---Squeak/cry---

Using the doll is pretty easy. It is hard for my sister to make her squeak. So she doesn't do it but it doesn't make her love this doll any less. I didn't like the bald head so I added a wig and she looks so much better with a wig. My sister could care less, but likes that she can brush and add clips and bows. You make her cry by squeezing the other arm, which my sister can do. Some times she cries with no arm squeeze. Which I didn't like at first but now is more like a lesson. She'll cry if she's put face down, when she's shaken, when she's dropped, when she's hit, like a real baby. My sister didn't like this at first becasue she was used to dragging around her floppy baby dolls that didn't do anything, but now she attacks anyone who doesn't hold her right and tells them when she doesn't like something she'll cry. I just use my imagination and if she won't stop crying we decide she needs a nap and after a "nap time" she's happy again with no tears.

---Changing Baby---

You'll have to teach your daughter how to change a baby. The great thing about getting real baby diapers is the velcro sides that you can open and close. So if your daughter has to keep working at getting it to fit you won't run out of stick like you do with the doll diapers. After one feeding of water she doesn't need a change, we usually wait till it's pretty full (of water) before we change her but to each his own.

She'll only "poop" the food on her potty, but you can (only an adult) squeeze her legs yourself to make it come out in her diaper. They say to clean her after every food feeding but I usually just use water after every spoonful to wash it down and it makes it come out easier without breaking the game play. (which you might have to do anyway if you make the food too thick)

---Problems---

We haven't had any problems with our doll.

--Tubes/Leaking--

Our doll came with her tubes in and she didn't leak. It does tell you that you have to make sure a valve on her back is closed or else she will leak. The valve is there for when you need to clean her. It also says that the baby can only drink about 1/3 of her bottle before she'll need to "pee". which means if she gets filled up it'll slip out of her mouth and behind her neck making you think it's coming out of her back. So remind you daughter that baby won't be able to finish her whole bottle.

Since we haven't used her doll diaper I don't know if it leaks, but the real diapers we use never did leak.

--Feeding--

Is messing and personally I think it should be avoided since the replacement food can be expensive and hard to find but my sister likes to feed her. The only drawback is she can't be fed sitting up in a doll high chair (like you'd want) you have to feed her at an angle (like breast feeding) This is hard for my sister to understand this so a baby or doll bib is must!! Still she enjoyed feeding it and I do too. I just think it's short lived so not worth it. Once I figure out a homemade version of the baby food, or they start selling it chaeper, we'll feed her more but until then we only feed her every so often.

we have found that the little tikes website sells the full line of baby born stuff, very cheaply, including the food packets and diapers if you want to use those.

Overall my sister loves this baby doll and taking care of her. I like it because it's sweet and fun to play with too.

She can also now go in pools and baths for fun in water and even has her own bathtub.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lifelike functions? What functions?, December 5, 2006
By
L. Shelton (Flagstaff, AZ) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: BABY Born with Magic Eyes (Toy)
We received our Baby Born doll today, and quickly got our son to distract our daughter so that we could get a quick peak at her Christmas present. At first, we thought the doll was adorable. However, after our daughter went to bed, we got it out of the packaging before wrapping it (it is one of our pet peeves to spend Christmas morning wrestling with wires and cardboard) and attempted to discover all of its "functions." Supposedly it "squeals with delight." I kept looking for some way to make this baby do something -- anything -- and then my husband took it and forcefully squeezed its left arm and finally a pitiful squeak came out. It is not a "squeal of delight" but more like a dog toy squeak. Not only that, but no 38 pound girl could muscle up the strength to make this doll squeak. It came with two tubes and no directions as to where to put these tubes. I have edited anatomy textbooks, so I'm not dumb as far as where the possible orifices might be! There was just no logical explanation for these strange tubes that we could find, even after reading every single piece of paperwork. So, tossing the tubes aside, we tried to give her water. It leaked out of her neck (no surprise what with the missing tubes). We packaged the entire sham back up and really, really hope that they give us our money back -- minus the shipping charge. What a scam. We are hoping for better luck with Corelle. I'm just happy we didn't keep it in the packaging, only to have our daughter be the disappointed one on Christmas morning while she discovered its "functions."

3.0 out of 5 stars Falls short of expectations., December 25, 2006
This review is from: BABY Born with Magic Eyes (Toy)
This is a sweet doll, it does come with wonderful accessories and the magic pacifier is a good idea. (Basically a magnet in the pacifier causes the baby's eyes to close and open when the pacifier is removed.) This is where the good ends and the disappointment begins. The eat and wet function, well just make sure you have the doll diapered or wrapped when you feed it as it runs right through. I did not have the problem one other reviewer had, our tubes were inserted thank God. The "squeals with delight" is out and out false advertising. The other reviewer was correct... it's a dog squeak toy sound. Really a company of Zapf's caliber should know better. I think people who purchased this doll should be given a rebate. Anyone interested in sending a petition to Zapf and Amazon regarding this blatent lie regarding this product? I should have guessed, no batteries would indicate no real sound functions, but I've seen Zapf pull off some great features with dolls in the past and thought because of the eyes there had to be some gimic with this doll as well. One additional complaint regarding this doll... the clothes are astronomically expensive to buy (real baby clothes are cheaper!) and yet the outfit the doll comes with is poorly made and not that nice looking, guilting parents into the purchase of at least one decent outfit for the doll. My solution... do a web search there are free sewing patterns out there for doll clothes that will fit this doll. Shame on whoever claimed this doll "squeals with delight".
