With this carrier, you are able to run errands or meet friends while carrying your baby in a safe, comfortable fashion. The carrier's wide, padded shoulder straps distribute a baby's weight evenly over your back and shoulders, so you both enjoy maximum comfort.

And beyond simply practical, the Baby Carrier Original Spirit is available in a variety of bold, striking colors, allowing you to express your individuality and sense of style.

Made of Safe, Comfortable, Non-toxic Materials
All fabrics and materials used in BABYBJÖRN Baby Carriers that come into contact with baby's skin are Öeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1 certified, an international safety standard for textiles, and contain no health-hazardous substances. This means that during your baby's teething phase, you can allow your baby to nibble or suck on the fabric without worry.

The 100% cotton fabric feels soft to your baby's cheeks, won't irritate sensitive skin, and is machine washable.

Provides Pediatrician-recommended Posture Support
The innovative design of the BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier allows you to safely carry your newborn facing towards you--then, once your baby has grown older and stronger, he, or she, can be carried facing outwards, so they can view their surroundings.

In both cases, the carrier's firm, adjustable head support allows babies to remain safe and secure in the carrier. Plus, the shape of the carrier positions your baby's legs in a spread-out, ergonomically-correct crouching posture that is recommended by pediatricians.

Adjustable to Growing Baby
The carrier's sliding buckle allows you to accommodate your baby as he or she grows in size. The minimum size requirement for use is 8 pounds and 21 inches and the maximum weight limit is 25 pounds. For your additional comfort and safety, the back and shoulder straps can be easily adjusted from the front to custom fit your body.

Innovative Two-Piece Design for Ease of Use
The unique two-piece design makes it simple for you to place your baby in the carrier unassisted. And if your baby falls asleep in the carrier, the two-piece design allows you to remove the front to lay the baby down without waking him or her up. You can also unhook one side for discreet nursing in the carrier. The strong, well-designed latches click securely and release easily with one hand.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stylish and easy to use, but kills your back..., July 9, 2009
Over the course of three children we have had FIVE carriers: Two slings, a Baby Bjorn, a Snugli and the Ergo Baby.

The Bjorn is definitely the best looking and easiest to use. The clips and connectors are very intuitive and it's easy to get smaller infants into it.

My big complaint is that when the kids get larger (or if you wear it for more than 20 minutes at a time) it really starts to kill your back. This is because the design keeps all the weight on your shoulders. It's like wearing a backpack BACKWARDS!

The "Active" version has wider straps which provide additional support for a small improvement over the "Original," but it still puts all the weight on your shoulders, pulling them forward.

If you only plan to use this when grocery shopping and think you'll give it up when they're 6 months old, this might be for you. If you think you might want to go to the park and hang out, or use it even when the kid starts to crawl, then the Ergo Baby is probably more your speed.

p.s. this is coming from a guy who is 6', 180# and fit. My wife is smaller and far more critical of the ergonomics of this carrier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Baby Item in the World- now in gorgeous pink? Perfect!, August 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Greatest product ever! My son lived in his Classic from 8 lbs until he was approximately 28 pounds (1 1/2 years old). We went on daily walks for 1-3 hours at a time. He could sleep in it & breastfeed in it. Having him close to me really strengthened our bond- rather than having him in a stroller. It was also really easy to use. I was devastated when he was too big for it. I tried to move over to the Ergo, but found it to be way more complicated to get on & off and also found it not to be comfortable. I also tried a wrap system, which was comfortable, but which took ages to get on & off, and which had tons of material that ended up being wrapped around you which was too hot. I really missed the simplicity of being able to whip my son in or out of the Bjorn in seconds. When I was pregnant with my 2nd child, my friend gave me a new Active Bjorn. I was really excited about the new Bjorn, but when I put my infant daughter in it, I was horrified at how uncomfortable it was. I also didn't like all the extra straps (confusing) and all the extra material (too hot). My Classic was faded quite drastically (I purchased it used) after so much use, so I wanted to get a new one for the new baby. I wanted a Classic (technically a downgrade from the Active) since they're WAY more comfy, and was delighted to find a Classic in pink! It is positively the best thing ever.

The reason the Classic is better than the Active is because you can adjust the diamond in the back of the Classic to alter where the weight is being carried. You cannot do this with the Active carrier- at least, not that I am aware of. Once the baby is in the Bjorn, you need to play with the straps and adjust the diamond to get the carrier in the right spot to be comfortable. When properly adjusted, it's fabulous. When it's not adjusted properly, it's uncomfortable. Many people who say the Bjorn is uncomfortable probably haven't adjusted the straps to the right spot for them (or else they are trying a different style of Bjorn, like the Active).

I also don't like the Active Bjorn because the support in the back doesn't fit me properly (I'm quite slim). So it presses into me in places it may not do for larger people- causing it to be uncomfortable in the back support area.

One final bonus of the Classic is that it doesn't wrap around your waist- so you never get the "muffin top" effect.

My only complaints are that 1) you can't carry your child in it past 26 pounds (though I went past that to nearly 28 pounds, but would liked to have been able to use it much longer) and 2) I wish they made the Air carrier in pink.

Perfect product.

3.0 out of 5 stars I had high hopes..., March 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Original - Green, Spirit (Baby Product)
My little one is a cuddler and starts howling the minute I put her down, which was cute at first, but after awhile the novelty wore off and getting things done around the house became impossible. I bought the Moby wrap after reading all of the reviews on it with high hopes of using it all of the time. While I have used it and my babe does like to be in it- it is such a pain in the butt to use for short instances or after car rides, when due to the sheer amount of fabric and complex wrapping makes it not worth the trouble- plus it is impossible to keep it off of the ground- which I feel is gross and unsanitary. It is a great solution to put on at home and then wear on walks, but I was looking for a more practical, easier to use option. I looked at every possible version of the Baby Bjorn and Ergo. I chose this option because my baby was too small to go into the new Bjorn comfort option and the I didn't like how the Ergo needed the infant insert, as well as it didn't offer the front facing option. Plus, the price was right and I loved the color options of the Bjorn Spirit- I chose the Pearl Gray- a nice neutral that will work for my daughter and if there is a son in my future. So, to make a long story longer- I bought the Spirit. It is super easy to put on and adjust and my little one seemed comfortable in it- she fell asleep in it the first time we had it on. My main issue with it- as is everyone else's- is the lack of back support. My baby is on the minimum of weight and height of being able to wear her in this carrier, and my back was already hurting! Mind you, I am fairly strong, 5'8'', and on my way back to my pre-prego weight, so there is nothing abnormally large or small about me by any means to indicate why it was already bothering me after such a short time- no pre existing back problems, either. So, that was a huge downer for me!!! I plan on using it, though, still just for the convenience factor and then investing in a new carrier when she gets s little bigger and there are more options available to us. More than likely, I will end up with the Ergo- for the back carrying option and it's much raved about comfort and support. Bottom line- if you are on the fence, give it a shot... it is fairly inexpensive, comes in great colors, it is very easy to put on and take off, and it offers both front and back facing options. Then, when your little one gets a little bigger, buy a carrier that can also be a back pack carrier- like the Ergo. In my opinion, once my daughter gets a big enough to be in a backpakc carrier- I probably won't want to wear her in the front anyhow- no matter how comfortable the carrier claims to be (plus it solves the problem of the Ergo not having the front facing option)- hope this helps someone!
