May not fit smaller people,
By
This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Active Carrier - Black (Baby Product)
I requested the Baby Carrier Active as a gift because the lumbar support sounded so nice, and having used the Baby Carrier Original, I thought this would surely be at least as good and probably better. The straps on the Active carrier do take some getting used to and are not as easy to adjust as those on the Original carrier. My main problem with it is that due to the design of the shoulder straps, they can only be tightened so far. I am 5'4" but fairly small-chested, and I cannot tighten the straps enough to get a really snug fit. The result is that my 17-lb baby still falls forward a little bit, and my shoulders start hurting fairly quickly. I enjoyed the very-adjustable and snug-fitting Original carrier more than this one, and am disappointed the Active carrier, especially knowing how much money was spent to buy it for me. If you are a larger person, this might work well for you. But if you are smaller, buy this somewhere that will let you try it on or take it back, or just go with the Original carrier.

In response to D. Websters clarification of "recall" concern,

Actually, the Baby Bjorn "active" carrier model was recalled in 2004 and the issue concerned the design of the buckle on the back straps and not the leg openings. Apparently, the matter has since been resolved on this model which is now in stores/on-line. Check Baby Bjorn's web site for further information...

We use this piece of baby gear more than any other. Baby goes everywhere we go in this carrier. One of us usually puts her in the Baby Bjorn first thing after having our morning coffee and she typically stays there through most of the day. It is especially useful when she is fussy and wanting to be held, but parents have stuff to do. Sometimes it is the only place our baby will nap. The lumbar support is worth the extra money if you plan to carry your baby for long periods of time.

One of the most used baby items we own,

We Love this carrier and think it is DEFINATELY worth the money. We use this every single day. When she was first born and just wanted to be held all the time, this carrier was the only way I got anything done, vacumming, washing dishes, etc. Now that she is older, we still use it whenever we go out, she LOVES being in it, she gets a great view of all the action and yet is still close to Mommy and Daddy. For the people who say that there is no way of securing the flap and that it flips up and hits the baby in the face - I am guessing that you are not using it correctly. We thought this, too, until we figured out that you still use those two top snappy things when the baby is facing out. if you fold the flap down and use the top snaps, it should not be flipping back up.

Baby loves it!,

I bought this even though the price was a little scary. I originally had the snugli city sport which is fine, but too many buckles and straps. This carrier is so soft and padded, my daughter seems so comfortable. Very easy to get on and off by myself, too. Definetly recommend!

After trying the snugli and eddie bauer carriers, we finally spent the money and got a quality carrier. What a difference! The others hurt my shoulders and back (i'm 5'2") The Baby Bjorn with lumbar support felt so much better and secure. I highly recommend it and it's worth the extra money. My son is 4 months old and 15 pounds, I wish I had gotten this one much sooner.

Just to clarify (no recall concerns),
This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Active Carrier - Black (Baby Product)
A previous review mentioned that dreaded word "RECALL" when referring to this product. It should be noted that this warning was misinformed. With a little extra research ("Consumer Reports" is one of the best and most objective sources for such information) one can discover that the recall in question was only related to products manufactured before 1998. I've attached a copy of the report for anyone interested in considering safety without the detraction of misinformation:"Recall Notice: Baby Bjorn soft-fabric infant carrier Baby could slip through leg opening and fall out. Products: 240,000 infant front carriers sold 1/91-10/98 at juvenile specialty stores and by catalog for $75. Carrier came in navy blue, black, denim, green, and other colors. "Baby Bjorn" is printed on front and on strap. Straps fit over shoulders and around torso of adult; baby faces adult's chest. What to do: Do not use carrier for children less than 2 months old. Call 877 242-5676 toll-free for kit to reduce size of leg openings. Carriers currently sold aren't being recalled." Hope that helps!

Who Needs a Stroller?!,
This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Active Carrier - Black (Baby Product)
I Love this carrier! There was a review saying that it's not big enough fot babies with big legs, but my child has got HUGE thighs and is pretty tall for her age, and it fits her fine! She loves it so much, that i dont even take her stoller with me anymore. this fits in her diaper bag, and is really easy to use. It was hard at first for me to get her in and out of, but as soon as I got the hang of it, it was a breeze! I especially love to use this when I go to the grocery and the mall, because I have 2 free hand to shop! Also, it is so cozy, that she can sleep for hours in it which I found usefull because when I used to use my stroller, she never slept, and was always wanting out!I have serious back problems, so I was adived not to buy a carrier, but I decided to try this one because of the lumbar support. I have not have any back pains, and I wear this for hours at a time, in heels! and as you can image, my child is not exactly a feather weight! I love this carrier and recomend it to anyone! It also has an awesome nursing position you can use! I will be sad when my child hits the weight limit!

Great, but not for the petite person.....,

This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Active Carrier - Black (Baby Product)
The concept behind the added lumbar support appealed to me, but like another reviewer, I could never quite gets the straps to fit tightly enough or comfortably enough. I am 5"2 and smaller busted, and the back straps had a tendency to "pucker". After experiencing some pretty severe and unexplained shoulder and shoulder blade pain for weeks, I realized that this was the culprit. I am returning this and a new original carrier is on its way. If you are taller, it may be a wonderful product for you since it it easy to put on and off. My baby loves to face forward and see the world. I look forward to receiving the tried and true original. A quick FYI: By the end of April 2005, Regal Lager corp. will no longer be affiliated with the baby bjorn; a new company is buying it.

Great carrier from birth to at least 9 months,
This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Active Carrier - Black (Baby Product)
We used this carrier until our baby was 8.5 months old - when we finally bought a backpack carrier. Our baby always seemed very content in the Baby Bjorn and I always felt like the product was secure. Both my husband and I carried the baby in it, and we had no problems making adjustments to the carrier. We'll use it again with our next baby.
