2.0 out of 5 stars Brush Grubber Peels Bark more than Lifts, October 5, 2009

I was disappointed with this product. The gripper head mainly peeled off the bark of the seedlings or brush that I wanted to remove. I finally wrapped a small chain around a seedling with the gripper's teeth biting into the chain and then it lifted the seedling. I also think a set of wheels would have been nice - both in moving it around and to give it extra height for a longer removal stroke. Interesting concept, but the details need to be worked out to make it a viable product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Owner user, May 4, 2010
This review is from: BAC Industries BG-03 Brush Grubber With Fiberglass Ironclad Extension Handle (Lawn & Patio)
Although this product looks as if it will work, it's made very well . . . looks great! Works horribly, does not grip saplings, on the pull the grippers rotate and the grip is lost, you start over again and it slips again. I tried this devise for 3 hours, maybe I removed 15% of my attempts the rest were not successes. I suggest you use a garden fork, get a strong one and lever the saplings out. This product is useless and will not make you a happy user. Do not buy this product

UPDATE I found a product that works, the EXTRACIGATOR is made in Canada. Commercial quality, works on the small and the larger saplings. The product is heavy and built like a tank and will give you a real workout BUT it works and works well. This one I will tell friends about.

This works OK but you have to make sure the tree is not too small or too large!
If it is too small the spikes on the gripers do nothing and it just slides off, if it is too large you have to use all of your weight(in my case 230lbs) to bounce up and down on the handle of the tool. This in turn causes the lever point to sink into the ground! Now you are carrying around the tool and a heavy piece of wood to use as a platform to rest the tool on. If you have a lot of trees and shrubs that are 1-2 years old then this might work ok for you.
